Before posting, PLEASE read and follow the 'rules'...

I have been receiving quite a few PM's in regards to policy violations in almost all of the 'sale' forums. I ask that if you post something for sale in the forums, PLEASE follow the rules. As JW has stated in previous discussions, we cannot tell YOU who to sell your item to. However, being this is a community and we have respect for our fellow Buick enthusiasts, WE ask you honor the rules.
There has been a little confusion on how to 'line up' or 'reply appropriately' to items/cars for sale. I will be seeking clarity to those rules and the results will be posted.
Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation!!

There are too many "PM Sent" replies to sale ads thinking this puts them First in line. It Doesn't.

I would like to say the mods will ALWAYS be here to monitor... But... Like I had said, I will be working on clarification on the 'rules'. I believe as mods we tend not to be 'heavy handed'.. As this is a community forum. However, if the MAJORITY wants the rules strickly enforced, then the rules will be enforced vigorously...

    Thanks again, everyone!!

I've replied with "PM sent" on items I was interested in buying, assuming that put me in line, but in the future I'll be more definite as to my interest.

Perhaps as correct response could be "In line, sending PM" if you are the first person to reply to the ad. Subsequent responders would then form the queue in sequential order.

Yeah...I got stiffed by a "jolly" seller on here a few months ago. Responded 1st within a minute or so, then this guy says somebody PM'd before me! Said it was a buddy of his, so too bad, so sad for me! THEN...when I complained to him he deleted the ad. I say let's crack down. At least give the guy who responds first a shot. That said...it's the only prob I've had here, the majority of the sellers are great. And...those PM deals where the item is sold out from under the first interested person, it takes TWO rulebreakers to do that.

Why do you have to seek clarity? Just look at the 68 Skylark For Sale thread. Rule #3 - PM's DO NOT COUNT as putting your self "in line" and it was sold anyhow. Just to clarify, I wasn't involved in any way in that thread it just wasn't done according to the rules. Tom It was the 68 Special thread for sale not a Skylark.

Yup...ever notice the rule breakers never donate to V8? Same with the "jolly" dude that screwed me, can't donate a buck to the board, only comes on to sell crap. Same with the 68 special, non-donater rule breaker! We follow the rules and then carry these seagulls so they can screw us.

What is so hard about this? Seriously.....if you post that you are sending a pm you are posting in the thread and therefore you are in line. If you do not post to a thread and only send a pm then you are not in line. That's what is meant by pms not holding a place.
Why do you guys want to cloud this up by making a big deal out if this? It's simple. No magic words of intention are needed.
Post saying pm sent.....then send pm if you are interested in discussing business in private. Perfectly legal.

Sounds like kinder-garden all over again,he cut in line ahead of me that's not fair. Look the bottom line is money talks and BS walks. A lot of the replies are just tire kickers, picture viewers,or I need to talk it over with my wife, which takes up time from the serious buyers. I played by the rules and got screwed a few times selling things. Did the give everyone an opportunity approach and took for ever to get any response from so called interested parties. By the time I filtered through the thread the serious buyers that PM'd me had already bought it somewhere else. So what did that get me...........a no sale. The "FAMILY" concept I get it,but sometimes you have to strike while the iron is hot. In this day and age opportunity doesn't stick around waiting and if you blind it's gone. Just my 2 cents.

I have no problem with the "PM sent" or "sending PM" being posted in reply to an ad to get in line. It seems to me the rules (as written) are there to take the behind-the-scenes PM (private message) out of the loop; in other words, giving the chance to buy to whomever replies first, going downward in order after that.

The rules would just have to be clarified/modified. That's all it would take to remove the ambiguity to make everyone know that a reply stating "PM sent" or "sending PM" is all it takes to get in line.

What sellers and buyers do behind the scenes certainly can't be controlled, so this sort of clarification won't stop the unscrupulous, it would only make things more clear and straightforward for those who care.

P.S. anyone who sends a private message to a seller first, then replies "PM sent", took too long to get in line!

What's so hard about obeying the rules ? That is the rules that were established here. If you can't follow them go sell on craigslist and screw strangers over there...

Furthermore, the guy that was FIRST in line before Mr. pm sent got passed over as well. Explain that one ? The big deal is getting screwed out of a car. The rules don't say if you don't want to bother shipping a car to Denmark you can just pass the guy by.

    David G de-modded....

"PM sent" works just fine for getting in line, BUT only if the seller has listed only ONE item! If there are multiple parts listed, it really is necessary to specify what part is being referenced by the prospective buyer who says PM Sent. In such a case, I don't think they've gotten in line for anything. I've pointed this out to a member or 2 who have made a habit of doing this in a mutiple part listing.

Agreed. When multiple stuff is for sale, the replies need to be specific.

Obviously there is no way to punish the people who don't comply. It is the sellers who are the violators as they are the ones who let the rule violations happen. It is an honor system that works most of the time. About all we can do is remember the rule breakers and don't buy from them.
