I'm looking to send my Quadrajet off to get rebuilt. Where is the best place?

    I agree. J.O. did a great job on my 800 cfm Q-jet!

I sent mine to Jim Weise and he did a great job. I called Mr. Osborne but I found his customer service to be, shall I say, lacking.

I would recommend John Osborne as well. He did a great job on my old carb and distributor! Always took my calls and gave me all the time on the phone I needed. Even when my repeated questions, must have seemed very redundant and ignorant to him. Super guy. Just MHO.

    Regards, John.

If this is a stock rebuild--no fancy tuning, just a return to what GM intended--the best place is YOUR GARAGE.

It's not at all difficult, it is fairly precise. You'll probably want to subcontract the re-bushing of the throttles to a local machine shop. You could do-it-yourself but you'll need to buy some special tools.

Beyond that, it's just cleaning, fresh gaskets, and careful assembly and adjustments. High school kids can do a good job of overhauling a carb.

Hot-rod tuning is another matter; the pros have a whole list of tricks, and can re-plate the carb so it looks like new as well--although if you were to buy a copy of Cliff Ruggles book on Q-Jets you'd have made a good investment.
(the book is printed in Communist China; expect the binding to fall apart in a few years.)

If you want it replated and rebuilt, Kinetic Performance did mine and I couldn't be happier. Beutiful job. They're in Ithaca NY.
