opp's picked the wrong photo.... first one was the year one nut.. sorry for the screwup the one on the left is the orig.... the one on the right is the year one
Owen, Sorry, but I don't agree. All the original lugnuts I have taken off 70-72 buicks, regardless of whether they were 14" or 15" Chrome wheels, or the painted 14" Sport wheels all looked like the ones that Ken posted. Duane The "original" you posted looks like one of the chevy style replacements. I have seen a lot of these on cars, especially after the originals met with an impact gun.
Duane... the one on the left is the same as kens, except the cover is not worn or pulled away...plus it's from a 70 not a 71
Owen, Sorry, I thought it looked like one of the chevy replacements that have the small point at the top. My 70 GSX also had the same style nuts that Ken's 71 has. Duane
So seeing no one seems to have the orginal types available, reproduction of these would be in my opinon, a hot item. I'd get a couple of sets... one for the car, and one set to put away.. just what you need Duane...ANOTHER PROJECT.. ou: ou: ou:
Owen, Glenn at Cars makes them. I don't know if they are quite as tall as the originals, but they work and are quite acceptable for Concours. Duane PS. I will give everyone here a bit of buick reproduction parts History. I did reproduce these years ago. They were as tall as the originals, and everyone loved them, but I could not manufacture them in the quantities needed for everyone that wanted them, including venders. I was concerned that someone putting their car in one of the show classes would have a set back-ordered, from a vender, and create a "stink" at one of the meets. (These are things I have to think about, because I am a Judge.) Glenn, at Cars knew my dilemma and said he could do it in a sufficient volume, to supply everyone, including the venders. So I sent him an original to copy. By the time my supply was exhausted, he had his available, so everyone was happy. So you see, I was already there. This is a case where 2 buick parts reproducers worked together to fill the needs of everyone. The "almighty dollar" never entered into the picture, but the needs of the buick restorers sure did. So, the next time someone wants to start bashing Cars about problems, they should remember all that he has done to make the parts needed for their restorations. Duane
