Boattail Door Guards?

Discussion in 'Repro Parts' started by Grendel, Feb 22, 2006.

I think my 72 Riviera's door guard siding has had it. I'm sure this is probably a stupid question but is there any place that make the little plastic feet that hold the siding to the body of the car? Or is there a way to get the whole assembly? Any info or leads are greatly appreciated.

    thanks, Nick

Most auto body supply shops have a good selection of clips. Are you talking about the plastic ones that slide over the "nips" on the car and the metal s clips on the front and rear of the door? Do you need the actual stainless molding also? If you do I have a nice complete set from front of car to back. Some have a colored rubber insert and some are just stainless. Mine are stainless with no rubber insert. They came off a 72. They are nice and I would make you a deal, except I dont know how you would ship the really long rear qtr. piece. I also have some used plastic clips. The metal ones I took off are pretty rusty though. Marty

    Door Guards

My door guards have the metal rail with a kind of reinforced plastic insert. I don't think it's metal or rubber. If you look at your door guards let me know the kind of filler goes in on the back side by the retaining plastic tips on the metal holders. I will post a picture of my isse as soon as my girlfriend get the car home from work tonight. But there seems to be a hardened "caulk" type residue left over from the inside of the metal guides, which makes sense because I don't think the clips alone could hold the whole thing to the car. Pictures speak best so I'll post when I can. Please hold on to your set for me though that'd be greatly appreciated :)

    Thanks, Nick

Is it just the plastic clips you need? The molding I have has no color "rubber" insert in it. If its just the clips I think I have some used ones left. Let me know how many you need and I will see if I can find them. Marty

    Sure!

Yeah, if you have some unbroken plastic clips I could probably use about half a dozen or so. Also, if you look back at picture 3 what kind of adhesive was used BEHIND the door guards to better adhere the guards to the car? Was this some kind of caulk I can buy at Kragen or Napa or is it something else? Let me know how many clips you come across and I'll PM my address your way. Thanks for the help!

I don't think there was any adheives or caulk used by the factory. I would say somebody in the past had a similar problem and tried to solve it with an adhesive of some sort. They do sell emblem adhesive at auto parts stores. It should work well for solving your problem. I would try the clips first and if you feel like you want a little insurance from it coming loose again you could use a little to make sure. PM me your address and I will try to find some clips and mail them to you. Marty

You don't owe me anything. karma will be on my side when I need something, thats what being a member of the car community means to me. Marty
