We are trying to remove the body of our Skylark and so far every body mount bolt(3) has snapped off. :eek2: This is a nightmare! How do we do this? If we snap off all the bolts, how do we remove the part left in the nut when the nut is captive in the frame? o No: Help us Obi-wan-kenobi, you're our only hope!
Shoot everything with PB Blaster before you try to break them loose. Spray them well, let it sit overnight, spray again just before trying again. Sometimes I'll use the ratchet extension like a punch and give them a whack with a mallet prior to the attempt. The broken bolts in the captive nuts might be removed with a easy out if you can get at them. If not you will have to do some body cutting and patching. Welcome to the wonderful world of restoration lessons by mishap!!!
Please delete your duplicat post. You only need to post here once. You probably have a northern car so rust is there and will prevent body bolt removal. There is an easy way to do this. You will need to drill large holes throught the floor pan. You will see the dimple just in front of the seat belt retractor. Now, remove the old captured nut and install new ones (regular nuts). Use a socket(I believe they are 3/4") and tighten the bolts from the bottom while your assistant holds the ratchet in place. For the ones in the trunk, repeat the same process. When you are all done, mounting the body to the frame, welded covers over the holes and then use some polyurethane roofing and flashing sealent (comes in a caulking tube from Home Depot) to seal the covers to the floor. You can then splatter paint the trunk floor and no one will notice.
George, You are saying the dimples on the floor, ahead of the belt retractors, are factory? We noticed them in my car after the new bushings were installed. I thought, at the time, the young fellow at the shop had merely reefed too much on an extra long bolt & made the dimple.
