Just ordered the Cliff Ruggles book..Cant wait to dive in..
For now I only have this Chevy Q-Jet that I think is from a 1980 350 truck if I did the code right...17080213 1052 CPX
For now the intended use was for my 350 Regal swap..Hopefully I will at least be able to use it to fire up the motor and move the car around until I can find a Buick carb, if that is indeed the way to go.
So far I have popped the q-jet apart...The site of more parts over my first carb job(2 jet) has got me a little scared, but I am hoping to truck on through...

If I may, let me give you a little advice regarding the book and my recent experiance using it.

Great book with a lot of info. Most things in it are spelled out quite plainly and easy to understand. If, however, you have a problem understanding what it is telling you for lack of picture or simply needing it spelled out, get on Cliff's website and go to the forum and ask. A lot of help and Cliff will be quick to reply.

Two mistakes I made that made life difficult.

    1. When pulling the idle tubes, always heat them! I don't have the book in front of me, but I believe it gives you instruction on how to pull them and only mentions heating should you encounter idle tubes that are tough to get out. On Cliff's message board, he says he has a 99.9 percent success rate heating them. Without heat, I had a very difficult time pulling one. With, it takes 2 minutes from start to finish.

    2. Only use enough Marine Tex to cover the threads of the plug when using Cliff's kit for the well plugs. I used too much on one and it made its way down into the casting and is blocking off the passage for the secondary rod. Unless I am able to get down in thee and grind/ drill it out, I may have ruined that casting by using too much and letting it get under the allen screw. Won't know till I get back home and try to get it out.

Other than that, enjoy and work slowly.
