brake drums

    Hi guys I am getting ready to paint my rear drums what color should they be finished.these are for my 71 GS

    The drums themselves are natural cast iron in color. If you have Rallye wheels, the outboard face of the drum should be painted black. This way when you look at the side of the car, the slots in the wheels will not show a light color through those slots.

    Pretty sure that would be semi-gloss black. Seems that was discussed on a previous thread which I can not locate.

    Yes, you are correct Korrie. Semi-gloss black is correct.

    Thanks Brad, Korrie I am putting torque thrust 2 rims on and there's a lot more drum exposed i just want it to look right.

    This is a picture of the rear brake drum on a '72 Skylark we recently bought that had 25,300 original miles. You can see that it was painted very lightly on the vertical face as the guys have already described. Also interesting is that the drums had never been removed, you can still see clips on 2 of the studs that held he drum in place on the assembly line. I agree the paint was semi-gloss
