I have been told that Flint built 70-72 GS/skylark can/will have a broadcast sheet in the upper left portion on the dash, rolled up like a cigar and stuck down in cavity in the firewall. I am told that you may "miss" it as there will most likely be paint (dash color) on the end and it will "blend" and not be obvious. I am also told that if you look "up" from under the dash very carefully you may see the sticking out, ever so slightly, from the firewall. Is this true??
Well, it was on our Black 71 GSX...exactly as you described. Also found one under the carpet next to the console...a "body final", different from the first one found.
Some Flint built 70-72 GS/skylarks have a sheet in the upper left portion on the dash. It is a "Body Shop Inspection" sheet and is usually rolled up like a cigar. This is not a "Broadcast" sheet. What people call Broadcast sheets are the build sheets found in buicks built in every plant other then Flint. They look just like a sheet found in a chevy and list everything under the sun. These sheets are usually found hog ringed into the rear seat, or can also be inside the back of a front bucket seat. The sheet found on top of the gastank on Flint built 70-72 GS/skylarks is either a "Production Order Body Final" or "Production Order Chassis Paint" build sheet (Depending on the year). I guess you could consider them as Flint style "Broadcast" sheets. Sometimes they are also found under the carpets, where a copy fell before the carpet was installed. All Flint built 70-72 GS/skylarks should have one of these sheets. The sheets stuffed inside the dash were for special order cars, body damaged cars, or vehicles that were used for quality control purposes, not every car had one. They do not list much information, but easily prove a car is a 70 GSX. You can prove a 71 GSX by this sheet also, but it is harder, it's not spelled out like it is on the 70 sheets. If you really want to get specific Mopars are the only cars with "Broadcast Sheets". Their build sheets actually have the word Broadcast at the top. The term was then used to describe chevy style build sheets etc. I hope this helps with your search. Duane
build sheet/build sheet Thanks for the replies. I have looked under the gas tank, the seat etc. Nothing! Fortunately my car is early 1970 build and I have the Sloan Musuem information for my car and the complete Title history from the State of Tennessee which both confirm the options on the car including the Stage 1 option. I will make an effort to see if this sheet is in top of the dash. Have a great day!
Re: build sheet/build sheet my style build was tucked up in the upper left corner of the dash (right under the windshield mount left of the air vent. I have an early 70 model convertable even. I was removing my gauge cluster and found it along with about 2 lbs of white sand (guessing previous owner pulled some doughnuts down near daytona back in the day). wrote all of the info off of it then put it back to where i found it to be discovered again IF i ever sell the car. the option numbers are like 1.5" high then a lil discription is printed with normal text under it. like i have the long console option etc (cant recall the number for it though) and AC nate
Build sheet location Nate, Thanks for the reply. What you described is exactly what I was told and confirms what Brad Conley and the others have said. The "fonts" are large and very different from a "regular" build sheet. Your description is exactly what I saw from a 70 GSX that a guy has who told me about this build sheet location. Again, thanks to everyone for the information.
Mike, Congrats on documenting your car. I had the good fortune of being able to use Sloan, after visiting Marco's page. If you haven't yet, you might want to add it to his list. Regards, Dan
