I just finished building a 1970 buick 455 motor that i had installed into my 1985 buick grand national. The whole story as to how and why this all came about is very, very long. In short, i am thinking of heading in a different direction and, i am throwing the idea of selling the new setup in whole or in several parts, on the table.

    - the motor was originally in a 1970 buick electra that a friend owned and fastidiously maintained. I acquired the motor and had it built out to be a monster! That it is!
Hot rod magazine has an article titled "epic dyno thrash" it has most of the specs on how my engine is built, and i used this as a guideline to achieve similar results. The motor was masterfully built by charlie bilotti on long island, those of you in the nyc area may know him from shafiroff racing. In short, he is one of the most talented builders in the industry, period! I am new to all of this so please forgive me if i misuse a term and bear in mind my ignorance on the subject. This is what i know about the specs and parts used to make this motor.

    - 1970 buick 455 block w/ aroung 55k original miles on it. (honed and prepped by bilotti) block and crank were in pristine shape and prime candidates.
    - brand new built block and internals including cast pistons, rings, bearings etc, etc. (this is where i fall mostly ignorant but i can dig up the specifics from charlie and provide them.
    - ta performance 212 hydraulic cam, lifters, & push rods. (lift, duration? I'm unsure, must look at build sheet and i can provide.)
    - edelbrock performer aluminum heads
    - cometic head gaskets
    - arp bolts and studs used throughout
    - edelbrock b4b aluminum intake
    - pro systems 850 cfm carburetor built for the combo
    - MSD DISTRIBUTOR/IGNITION
    - march performance buick 455 serpentine kit w/ chrome powder coated alternator, power steering pump, a/c compressor.
    - ta performance oil pump and timing cover & assembly (last one they had made!!!)
    - deep sump oil pan
    - msd mini starter
    - ta performance aluminum valve covers

the motor is currently installed in my gn and is running beautifully. Very happy motor! 10:1 + compression on the motor and charlie bilotti suspects its well over hot rod magazines numbers on the combo and probably pushing closer to 600hp! With torque coming in just under that. I will have the motor dyno-ed and get concrete numbers if a serious buyer wishes. I may just have it done regardless so as to back up the claims and have concrete data.
All told with the machining and assembly done by bilotti and the parts from ta performance and summit, i'm in it around $18k, OBO. I will entertain any serious offer. I have driven less than 500 on the road miles, just to break it in and it will have its first oil change this weekend. I built this for myself. I used nothing but the best parts and it has been built bulletproof by one of the best in the business. Bilotti does'nt do just anybody's motor. This is special. No low ball offers, don't waste my time. Its worth every penny of what i paid and probably more. I can be reached via e-mail with questions, and will provide pictures and any technical data that i was'nt able to provide here if need be. The motor and i are on long island in new york city. Serious buyers can come see it in person with an appointment. E-mail me at shamusvelez@yahoo.com

i also have hooker long tube headers on the motor, can be left installed and negotiated if a buyer wishes.
It is also mated to a brand new extreme automatics stage 3, 200-4r 1000 hp+ transmission w/ a 2800-3000 stall torque converter. $5k negotiable

So is $18k your asking price here? Our sales rules do require a specific asking price in all For Sale ads, and you can add "OBO" to that.

i put that number in just to give everybody a baseline. I followed it with "i will entertain any serious offer" meaning i'm negotiable. However, i was unaware of the rule of specifics. Thank you david. I put in obo as you suggested so as not to remain vague. Much appreciated.

With all due respect, I am subscribing to this thread out of curiousity what $18,000.00 into a 455 engine with these specs draws .

    Free bump for the sale!

well i certainly hope i can make it worth your while. Been pm-ed a few times already in response. Definitely not your everyday man's motor, but if i was the only one on earth that wanted this i would be surprised.

im not sure that i understand this question. Nothings going in it. The 455 is currently in it. I am considering selling the newly built (and installed) motor, because i am thinking of going in a whole other direction. I am heavily leaning toward building an all out race car. However, i would need to re coop some of the capital invested in the 455 to do so. But only if the numbers make sense. I have over 20k in this motor with parts and labor, and i won't give it away. The price has to be right. For all parties involved. Not sure if that helps answer your question?

It would help if you would post the graphs from the dyno runs for this engine and the name of Charlie B's shop on Long Island.

Kind of curious of this as well. Would there be a build sheet anywhere? May help the cause. GLWS

Cant thank you guys enough for your help with the pics! Engine will be on the dyno in 2 weeks, i have an appointment late october. I also found the build sheet and will post all the particulars asap! I am willing to take around 15k for the whole kit and caboodle if anyone is seriously interested. Otherwise she stays with me and will probably end up in something more appropriate. Thanks again guys for all the help and insight, you are all exceptional human beings and i really appreciate it.

not sure what isn't adding up, but if you have any legitimate concerns or questions, please feel free to ask me and i can possibly make sense out of it all for you. Its not rocket science. Its a motor.

dyno pulls are imminent and i will post them as soon as i have them. Charlie b works for shafiroff racing on long island, ny, however, he did my motor personally. It is not a shafiroff product. I was very fortunate to have had him do the machine work and assembly on this piece. It was mutual friends of ours that made it all happen and simply said, anything that charlie bilotti touches is as good as gold.

yes! Found the build sheet. Posting in the next few days. Here is the express version of the long ,long story. Bought the 85 gn. Blown motor = great price! I fully committed to restoring it to its original "hot-air glory". I was burned by a **** engine builder and speed shop on long island. Lost a lot, learned a lot, and i am the un-proud owner of a 231-ci boat anchor/future coffee table. My friend was sitting on a mint condition 1970 electra (4 door) with the 455 for some time. Many conversations took place throughout the course of my gn build. The one about taking the 455 out of the electra, building it, and putting it in gn, i made reality. Some may say why, i say why not. Its an 85. Never be original again ever, and buick did make more than just one performance motor in its history. Besides, its called hot rodding, been happening for a little while now. I basically, deep down in my heart, went through several different visions or renditions for the gn over these last 5 years i've had her. This was just the one that gained the most traction. I love the combination. The 455 torque monster in the g-body is a cool ass marriage. Its easily twice as powerful as the original hot air setup and its still true blue buick! I personally put a lot of blood sweat and tears into the build and that, coupled with quality parts, and charlie's wand and this is a great motor and second chance for this car now. That all being said. I have come to realize that, in hindsight, i really want to have the gn with a super high horsepower, forced induction setup and set it up as a bad ass drag machine. As cool as the 455 is, its just not the best platform to achieve this with, and rather than try as i might to achieve some semblance of this with the 455. It makes more sense to just start over, "once again" and do it another way. It would be easiest and fastest for me to achieve this if i let her go and turn it back into my hard earned cash again. But unless someone is in the market for something in this spec, and all the stars align, it seems most likely that i will continue to build out the car along the direction i am now headed, and just have fun with the bbb until i get to the point that it comes out and the ??? Goes in. I don't need to sell it. Deep down i'd rather not, most of you don't understand what it is to have had charlie's experience and hands build this. It's the ****. This motor has a very happy, healthy, and uneventful long life ahead of it. I would love to be able to find another way to finance the gn drag dream and land this puppy into a gs or something down the road. I'm just throwing the whole idea of it being for sale out there, and if it happens, then great, if not, great, either way i still win! Because i am happy, and for the most part content, and blessed with a couple of cool ass cars and bikes and gears and oil, among many more important things like family and health, etc. Sorry for the randomness of this story but its better than me droning on with all the details and timelines and i have a tendency to ramble on and i really don't have time for all that, and this was the best way i could help you understand where my head is at within this situation. Hope it helped.
