Pt. 5 <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-176-O9sHeM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> This video sums it up.. I've ordered the "core plug" and we'll have everything back together again in a couple of days. It's Dorman #550-028 , and it's 2". If this turns out to be incorrect I'll have this updated.
The plug is back under the intake, but the vacuum has gone down from 18 to a soft 14-15. Maybe re-using the intake gaskets didn't work? I'll order a new set and get that updated. The part number mentioned above is correct, but it's for a box of ten, so there are a few extras laying around here.
I see an opportunity to use a MIG welder for a few hours next Saturday, so I went to work on the cut out corner piece of the passenger door. I could either have started from scratch or with an existing corner, and I'm not sure which would have been better or quicker. Last weekend I harvested this red corner from an early 70's Ford truck for $3. It had the correct slanted angle on the bottom that I need for the cat's door, and it was flat on the inside.
After a lot of fiddling and trimming the piece started to fit. Unfortunately the radius wasn't the same so I cut a slit down the front and re-shaped it to be more accurate.
A bit more trimming and wire wheeling and the finished corner is test fitted one last time to make sure it's ready for the welder. I'll weld around the edges first and then tap the front edge in to make it more round and fill it in with the welder.
The corner piece is in place.. I sprayed the inside of the corner with rubberized undercoating to keep it from rusting.
I ran across this thread yesterday and have spent a few hours going through it. I just have to say kudos to you Kimson and the fine job you are doing with that car. you have come up with some creative solutions and made some wise desicions. I am currently in the process of a frame off resot on a 1964 Buick Electra convertible and this thread has given me more encouragement and ideas then you can imagine. Cheers,
Last week I was getting the car ready to take it to the track and get a few runs in on Friday, and then take it to a car cruise on Saturday. Really looked forward to this, and I spent two and a half hours cleaning it and getting everything loaded up on Wednesday night. Then the call came on Thursday and all plans were put on hold. Say hi to Harlow Evie Sofia Ekman
You still out there buddy? Im sure youve had your hands full. Give us an update when you get a chance. Of the little one and the Cat.:TU:
Wow... haven't checked this particular thread last few months... very belated ( ) congratulations to mum and dad :TU:
I'm still here, but there hasn't been too much activity on the car front. Still trying too coordinate with someone at work who is having his car painted at some point this summer to see what the shop he'll be using thinks about shooting the cat. I sold my little truck and bought a station wagon, which is (unfortunately) a bit too nice to haul parts and things in, so I haven't spent too much time at they yards either, not that I'll ever find that '66 boat Buick I'm looking for anyway, our cars sure are getting old. The new addition is growing and now smiles and you can make her make some sounds. Otherwise things are pretty much the same, Hollywood is filthy and noisy, gas is expensive, and the sun is shining.
