My old man went to his new job (Construction so he bounces around all the time) and it was close and had all paved roads and a nice parking lot so the next day he drove in his skylark. It is nothing to crazy, 464, Iron Heads, Pretty big cam and side pipes with electric cut outs so it is pretty loud. As soon as he gets there people start checking it out and talking and one of his co workers says he has a Chevy C-10 with a big block that will blow him away. He called it “the street sweeper” because it cleans up on anything on the street.

About a week later my old man drives his car to work again, he parks and turns around and sees a primer C-10 pickup truck pull in with a big block rumble. Everyone knew the race was on and was waiting for it after work. They were in a very industrial part of town with no traffic at all. So they bashed it off from a stop light and my dad pulls him HARD. The guy in the truck gave up before the end of the intersection because he knew he was done.

The next day he came into work and said he was building an El Camino. My dad and him became friends and helped each other work on each other’s cars some but everyone knew he was going to be gunning for him as soon as the El Camino was done. He went all out on it. $20 Grand in the drive train.(383 Stroker, CNC ported Dart Heads, Roller Cam, 9 inch ford, Ladder bars, ext.)

As soon as he got it done the trash talking started. Everyone was going to the race track that Friday and my dad asked him if they were going to race. His Co worker said if he was going to race him it was going to cost him a few dead presidents. Dad said that was fine. The race was once again on. Everyone at work was excited. Everyone was placing bets; people were coming to the track with cameras. The loser was never going to hear the end of it. That Friday the both drove the cars to work and did burn outs on the way home, throwing warning shots at each other.
We got to the track before him and Dad got a pass in before he showed up, everything went good and he was ready. His Co worker showed up and the race was set up $100 bucks cash. They line up and my dad killed him on the tree. The other guy spun dad pulled him no problem. His co workers buddies were giving him all kind of trouble. $100 in his pocket.

His Co worker brought a driver to the track with him to drive so they set up another race for $100 but this time his driver will be driving, my dad said that was fine, but he was going to do a driver change to. His Co worker was confused because he did not bring anyone else with him. I jumped into the car, started it, and started towards the staging lanes. (At the time I was 16) His driver was a big time street racer and immediately started saying how it was going to be an easy win. Like taking Candy from a baby.
We line up and I tree him and easily out run him again. $200 in our pocket. On my way back to the pits I drive past the co work. I jump on it and blow the tires off. He blows up, Throws his brand new helmet into his truck. Hands my dad the money and leaves and does not say a word. Everyone thought it was pretty funny. Him and his driver were screaming at each other, they were both out money and pride.

Monday at work they had a safety meeting and what was playing on the TV? Nothing but the race that was filmed. Not only did he have to hear about it from EVERYONE he had to relive it. He is still getting crap about it and this was 2 years ago. They both took their cars apart so round 2 might be coming. It will be interesting

    Great story!
Ya know the racing is great but the smack talking and build up is what really makes it fun.

Yeah, Racing is fun, I really enjoy it. But the people are what make it really interesting.

    "Nicey Nice"..... Love it.

They all underestimate the Buick don't they?
