I shot this particular run strictly for the benefit of some friends of mine who think Ch*vy Monte Carlos are God's gift to the automotive world. I actually have no idea who drives this particular monte, and I'm sure it is in a state of disrepair to run such times.

My 17 y.o. brother was driving the '65 Electra. He made it to the final round, cutting a .000 light but broke out with a 16.53 on a 16.60 dial! The 2 prior runs the car ran 16.609. Oh well there's always next week!

I used to work with a guy who had an '86 Monte SS with the aerocoupe back window. For nearly 2 years I heard him brag about how "fast" this car was.

So one night after work on the way home, we both wound up alongside each other on a 4 lane divided highway. (I had my old Riv, beat to hell, single 4, and it was my old motor with some broken piston rings).

Anyhow.......at the signal down the road.....the light turned green, we both let loose and I walked away from him right off the line :Brow: and just kept going. We never had to go past 60, he just gave up.

A couple of the other guys were behind us and saw the whole thing. Next day at work, he kept saying his car is so powerful he couldn't get traction. :Dou: I offered him a second chance but he was too chicken. After that for the whole next year until we worked opposite shifts, he always made it a point to leave a few minutes later than me.

If buicks were so great their would be more than one shop selling performance parts.
    :idea2:
I find it funny dissing a chevy product when buick motors are notorious for oiling problems and weak blocks.

The G-body is a very nice car to cruise in. Handles nice, roomy, overall a decent car. other than the GNs, performance sucked. The 305 "HO" was a turd. 190 horse in a big car, not a good idea. then there was the 307 in the olds/pontiac. My god the NA 3.8 was probably faster... I would not mind a monte ss with a nice running small block:3gears:

Tell your little brother to use the cars mirror and the brake pedal. It looks like he took a ton of finish line. I know its not easy though because I race my 17.90-18.00 second V/6 Regal in a street car class against sometime 9-10 second cars. Everything looks like a bullet coming down the other lane when your in a slow car. Good luck to your brother next week, hope he keeps cutting those .000 lights.

That particular run in the video was an open timeshot, that Monte must have had some serious issues, the best it ran all night was a mid-18. The car my brother lost to was dialing a 10.35, I've been there too and can attest to the bullet-like approach they make! :eek2:

Hey guys, i'm the kid who destroyed the Carslow. I love watching that video. haha. but yeah, i know to watch my mirrors on the strip if someone is chasing me down. but even if they do chase me down(unlike that monte which had no chance. he wasnt chasing down on me, i just launched that much better than he did that it seemed that way), i usually try to keep confidence in myself rather than the other guy since the electra is so consistent. I just got unlucky that time. But yeah, the other guy broke out too, just not as bad. so, just goes to show you kinda gotta trust yourself and not rely on the other guy, because the other guy could be further off their dial than you. But yeah, even though i got out, i was still ecstatic because of the .000 light. that was my first perfect light and i was practically crapping myself because i was so happy. haha. i was close all night though, i got a -.003, a .006, a few in the .02 - .05 range, and then one bad one, a .114, but that was just after i red-lighted the previous round and i wanted to be extra careful not to do it again. but yeah, hopefully i get back up there and get to beat up on some more ch*vy's and f**rd's. haha!

    Later,
    Jason

yeah something must have been wrong with that monte, its smoking in that video. I don't think that's tire smoke ither, heck my 6cyl truck would have ate that thing up.

you know, that was actually one of my favorite wins of all.

but my most favorite wins are whenever i get up next to like a 10 second car and then beat it. Because they have all that money into that car and i have a stock one that cost nothing when i bought it. haha. i feel like the other guy is probably like, "man, i cant believe i got beat by that buick?!". but if i ever race another buick, then remember, its just test 'n' tune:TU: . haha.

    Ha Great Video!!!
Whew, that was a close race. Man that Monte was really haulin'.
I also couldn't help but notice the woodchuck in the grass running right along side him. He was probably yelling at the driver, "Hey shut that thing off, your killing my kids with all that smoke ya doofuss"
    Great video.
