The prices at Palm Beach seem to be more realistic this year. I've seen some real bargains. Several cars that sold at Scottsdale in '06 went for under last year's money. A numbers matching rosewood '71 Stage 1 (I think it's the one that some dealer has been peddling for $97,000) crossed the block Wednesday for $32k. I figured it would bring near twice that much or I would have been on it. There's still a '71 Stage 1 4 speed ragtop and a '69 GS400 ragtop I'm hoping to catch tomorrow. I'm skipping Saturday this year. Too much of a madhouse.

I saw that too. I blew up the picture of the car u mentioned, I believe it was a volo car. Too bad that didn't put up that Ch. Mauve 4sp they've been sitting on for a while.

That 71 Rosewood car was at Volo, one of the cleanest cars I've ever looked at. I would bet the seller lost money at that price. Will be interesting to see what the 71 4 speed goes for :)

Saw the GN go through for $29k. Felt that was a pretty fair buy, considering it had Mid 6k miles, unmolested Astro Roof Car.
The Yellow 70-1 Torino Cobra appeared to be a VERY good buy from what I saw @ $22k. The Seller was shaking his head like crazy, as if he was REALLY taking a Bath.
Buyers in PB seem MUCH more Conservative.

I found the rosewood car today and took some pics. Very well bought at $32k. A bench seat, column shift '69 GS400 convt crossed at $32k also. Nice car, but not a steal at that price. I took some pics of the '71 Stage 1 4 speed ragtop. Nicely done car. Owner says he has $125k in the resto. That one is scheduled for Saturday - the premier day.

Overall, very reasonable prices. I saw some real steals. Great to see some sanity returning to the game. Lots of unhappy consigners. Craig Jackson looked miserable.

Thorton is an Olds guy. I cannot imagine a bigger mistake than to put that convert in a BJ auction. Huge risk since there is no history of Buicks bringing big dollars there and a lot of history that Buick muscle cars do not do well there.

Is the Fla auction no reserve lile Scttsdale?

No reserve. There were some very disappointed sellers. I spoke to some before their cars crossed the block and the numbers they expected didn't materialize.

Yes I just looked at their site. Thornton is a nice guy but he might lose his britches on that car. Top car has gone for something like 100K. Very hard to restore a car like that for 100K. He would have done better on Ebay.

I agree. Given what I've seen these past couple of days, I don't think he's gonna get his money, but he's comitted now. He might as well let it run and if it doesn't hit his number he can throw the high bid. If he bailed before the auction, he'd have to pay both sides of the premium anyway.

"F" with the Bull and get the horns...buyers these days are contemplating the over inflation and are looking at futures again. And, more to my pleasure, a driver gets to buy a car....

Not sure if this was the VOLO car as this 71 was a mess besides the shiney new paint . The car needed chrome and trim the under chassis was spray bombed over sand dirt etc even gas tank got fresh undercoating. Engine campartment needed a rebuild leaking oil surface rust rotted core support etc far from a 90k car. The 69 Convert needed even more help. Wavy dented body same spray bomb job over existing dirt . The grill was cracked up and painted wrong color interior was repainted by evidence of over spray all over the trim etc. A $20k car at best. There were some good deals but certainly not these buicks . The 68-70 442 converts were all a steal in my opinion.

There is clearly a downswing in the prices at PB from last year. The same buyers are there that were at Mecum and Scottsdale. The heavy hitters are getting some good deals. The sellers are taking a bath on some of the cars, especially the high end cars.

One of the best buys of the event was the numbers matching white '68 442 W30 convertible. A very nice car that went way under the money in the mid $30k range.

Watch what you say on here about BJ. One of my threads earlier this year had a post from an attorney from BJ threatening a lawsuit. I guess the one guy did get sued for saying bad things about the auction. Anyway my thread was deleted. Just be careful. Sad to have to say this in America but freedom ain't what it used to be.

Volo had two Rosewood cars, IIRC, a convertible in the 90k's and a hardtop priced around $39k. I think the car at BJ is the $39k car, not the $90k car.

The 71GS Convert St1-4spd sold during a commercial break... Got good money though, $145K. The prices are really all over the place today.

I don't think that Barratt Jackson and the Speed Channel are coordinating that well. f not. there so there is no sort of plot behind what gets lost to the "plugs". Just dumb luck like most things are.
