Just wanted to know if any one in the Buick world has, either in a Buick V8 or a V6 Turbo . I know way back when , there was a Buddy Ingersol running a Twin Turbo V6, that was in the 190mph range. And I know of (correct me if I'm wrong) Dutwieler's Olds has supposedly a Twin Turbo Buick V6 in it, and if so, It did run over 200 at Bristol about 3-4 years ago. I read an article in this months PHR, about a Mustang on 10.5 tire, tube chassis, and a turbo bigger than one's I've seen on tractor trailers, and running a 392 cubic inch eng ,breaking 7.06 @206mph! I know it will take some type of power adder to get those numbers but with the new 455 blocks coming out, and the new turbo blocks that are out, and the new ATI supercharger kit out for the Big Blocks, do you think it would be a regular thing to hear and see a Buick taking out that barrier? on 10.5 tires none the less?o No: Just rambling and thinking,,, thanks for the bandwidth!
I believe in the late 80's NASCAR used Buick Regals. And I think on super-speedways they were in the 200 MPH range.
Yes Buddy had the fastest GN in the world and his record still stands. I believe he went faster than Duttweilers GN and outran it by a hundredth or two. I believe Duttweilers Olds uses a Buick engine but I heard someone say it used a small block Chevy. I think however that Kent Rudbeck would have the fastest GN if he got a tube chassis. He runs two LT-72s or LT-76s. There is also a website with a Buick running 200 mph. I'll look for the link.
These cars were powered by small block chevys with "Buick" cylinder heads. They were just a 15 degree version of the various other sbc heads.
The late Scott Brayton crashed during a practice lap at Indy doing upwards of 220. I believe it was 1996 and he already had the pole at 222.??. He was driving for Team Menard in a Lola chassis with a turbo v-6.
A Buick V6 powered Turbo Trans Am is the current record holder in F/Stock class at Bonneville. 1500 hp. He had to add 1500 pounds of lead weights in the rear to keep it on the ground. He said the rear wing creates lift at around 285 mph. Top speed.........320 mph!
