Ok, i'm lookin at getting a 86-87 regal to kind of make a GN clone, this is really going to be my first big project, and i'm wondering... with parts from TA and postons, what kind of times will i get outta a regal with a 350 that's built to run pretty good? Also, what parts would you recommend. I want this car to scream. Reason i'm going 350 is because it came out of my skylark which now has a 455 in it. So i'd like to put this reliable 350 to good use. Money isn't an issue. I'd really like to go fuel injection but i'm not seeing any fuel injection for buick 350's ANYWHERE. TA's is a bit outta my reach for fuel injection and i don't think they're available for 350's anyway. Any good ideas? I'd appreciate it.

    With a strong 350 hp-ish 350 I would imagine 13's being a reasonable time to expect.

You can get kits to put fuel injection on almost any intake manifold, you will have to get the fuel injector bosses machined into the intake though, thats where it gets kind of exspensive. I Know TA can do that for you. Accel seems to have a new all digital and 100% tuneable injection kit but its probably pricey.

You can still go pretty damn fast with a good Q-jet and save a ton of money that you could put into head porting which will really help out the power.

I would get 10:1 (factory 10.25:1 replaceements anyway) type pistons, your choice of flavor (hyper, forged, cast, whatever), get your heads ported by Jim Burek or TA or one of the big names in head porting for Buick's - this is the big secret to make great power. Get an aluminum intake - TA or Poston, You could also get larger valves put in the 350 heads. Choose a cam that will work with your whole combination (rear gears, trans, weight of car, etc.) Also headers and a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust.

I'd like to run much quicker than 13's. I'm thinkin down in hi-bye land. Something close to 11's if at all possible. I want this bad boy to scream. My joke with all my friend is i'm going to paint it jet black and tint the windows so it looks like a bullet, you'll be able to hear it but you won't be able to see it. So keeping with that type of idea, quicker is better ;)

Cool... 11 seconds can be done with a 350.. Gonna cost more but thats how you play the speed game.

I'll see if I can cook up some high power 350 recipes in Dyno2000 then post my findings later.

Are you afraid of running race gas? A true 10.5:1 or even 11:1 compression will help out in the power area but won't work with straight pump gas.

Race fuel won't bother me. I don't plan on driving it THAT much that it's going to be a really big problem. This is my fun shits-n-giggles project. I normally drive my Skylark around when i wanna really just cruise. This one is mostly for those fun days I wanna make people go "woah" This is also going to be my first engine buildup/rebuild. But I plan on taking my time and making sure I do EVERYTHING correctly. Which will probably be checking everything 100 times and consulting many people to make sure it's done right. I'm basically just interested in possible products to buy and how much I can push out of this car with a reasonable effort and amount of cash.

Buy a V6 Regal...Then the Buick 350 will be a direct drop-in replacement...All you would need are the rubber motor mounts for the 3.8L V6 bolted to the 350 block...My suggestion on this is to buy the poly motor mounts that HRPartsNStuff has for the 3.8L turbo motors...They are bullet-proof...Just about indestructable...

Yea, my plan was to get an 86 or 87 regal.. preferably with no engine or a blown engine i can just toss... the reason i'm doing this project is to use the 350 i took out of my skylark that is now sitting in my driveway lol... i feel like a hick in flint now... i've heard Jim Burek would be a good man to have do my head/intake work... but for what i want i guess i'd have to do severe oil modifications ... does ANYONE know where a good place is in michigan that knows their buick engines enough to be able to do the block modifications for me?

Contact that person, the name is Roberta Vasilow. She is/was a director of the BCA and is a director of the michigan chapter of the GSCA. She can probably recommend a shop to ya, I believe she has a healthy 68 or 69 GS race car.
