    Uncle Pauly SAY UNCLE!

I need decent bumpers for a 1965 Skylark Convertible. I don't need show stoppers just decent chrome. Mine are rusted but not rotten. I just wonder if decent used ones would be cheaper than replating mine. This could make or break my bank for the car project.

I appreciate any help, leads or insights in this matter.

p.s. my trim is all there but also pretty pitted up.......what should I do?

    Thankyou, Uncle

Pauly, you can get yours rechromed for $250 each, plus shipping to Chicago I think, probably another $35 - $50 bucks each. Not sure what your budget is, but you have to figure if you are going to pay shipping, it is the same whether they are new or used.

Can I get New bumpers anywhere? About how much should I expect to pay? Anyone have info on this?

    Thanks, Uncle

    Uncle,

I don't think I have ever seen them for sale "new", and I would think they would be extremely expensive if they were. Desert Dogs does an excellent job on used ones, read about them here in this thread.

Here is what the owner said they could do:

To set the record straight, we will restore ANY one piece bumper, no matter HOW smashed, crushed, torn or flat, sandblast it, straighten it using factory dies, copper-nickel-chrome (triple plate) it, polish it and it comes with a full THREE YEAR guarantee, for JUST $250.00! We can ALSO restore multiple piece bumpers AND rotted bumpers, but you will have to contact us for details. We cannot help with replating anything other than bumpers, sorry.

Chris that is such a killer deal. When my bumpers come off they will both be going there.
I've never heard of new for our '65's.

I think it's $250 for the basic job. Plus your initial shipping and then $50 per bumper to ship back to you(wrapped and insured). If they make a hole when blasting in a rotten area it is $50 per patch. Not unfair, just not included. I wish I could just find decent chrome, but it looks like I'll need to replate my cores.

Thanks for the time and help, Uncle

Desert Dog seems to be the best deal. However, the shipping from MD might just get me to look a little more locally first. After shipping I'll pay about the same, just have to drive a few hours to Richmond VA.

    Thanks, Uncle
