Well, we all know the truth, the bigger the car, the more respect comes with it, in most cases:Brow:

I was fresh out of High school when I bought our 66 Wildcat GS. When I took my girlfriend/now wife to her prom my Wildcat got more attention than the 30 ft 6 wheeled limo:TU: .
My wife took her driving test with the Wildcat and the registry cop said "If I had a car like this I would think twice about letting my girlfriend drive". I politely told him I doubt he would ever find a car like mine so it didn't really matter. As my wife left the parking lot of the registry the Cat suffered a major traction issue:3gears: :eek2: .
We are the youngest family by about 20 years in our local car club and 1 of 2 Buicks families. The other Buick owner died 2 years ago of old age:Do No: . We do hear the "Buicks are for old people" all the time. I look at it as other peoples way of saying wish I had one.

This is a great topic!! I love this stuff. Just yesterday my friend and I were having fun with this. I had parked my T-Type in front of our local hangout and my friend had said to six individuals "Look at that muscle car outside!!" All six almost had the same identical answer "Where?"

I just love the general public and their complete ignorance of Buick power. People my age (28) and younger are especially ignorant. Although my close and personal friends are thoroughly educated on what a Bu-hog can do. I never bought a Buick for popularity. I buy them because they are the best. Why settle for less. Buick invented the luxury-sport car before Lexus and Acura had reused the term in the early 90's. Buick has focused on the older population in recent years, but is about to change as GM is focusing a billion dollar overhaul of the Buick car line in the next three years. In 2006, Buick rear wheel drive is going to be available again!! :TU:

Dave, I had just finished reading your post, and at the same time I had the local news on. They were teasing about a upcoming report about how elderly drivers are more likely to die in a collission.

What kind of car was the old guy driving in the film clip?

You guessed it, A BUICK!:blast: :af: :spank:

Coincidentaly, it is the same station as the radio station that I mentioned on this thread in an earlier post. To you wivb:moonu:

Joe, What really cracks me up regarding the whole Buick label is this: Buicks are OMC's, that's the stereotype. I'm 28 and I only buy Buick. I love to feed off of other's ignorance. I love shock value!! It is golden!!

I wish I had a dollar for everyone of my neighbors and old college friends who keep tabs on me. They all know that I'm up to no good and I have a secret big block project happening and they don't want to end up being shocked.

Keep in mind of the true Buick corporate image. Luxury and sport. Buick has spent a large amount of money on turbo chargers and superchargers. What market is Buick looking to sell cars too? Obviously they are not targeting teenage girls.........which explains why so many of our younger friends are toiling over this debacle. Even in 1987 with the GN, Buick marketed the car to older working adults. So how many dads are going to buy cars that are slower than their daughter's car?

Here is another interesting item. Why is it that only in 1987 is it mentioned that Buick beat Corvette. They built the same car a year prior in 1986. Could it be that Buick is always looking for the come-from-behind win??!! Its leaving me thinking seriously about 2006.

I will never forget the night a Young fella jumped out and asked if I wanted to race "That BUICK" He was driving a 4 speed 440 Dodge charger [1968] At the end of low gear I was about 1/2 a length ahead of him. I heard him shout "What is this". we raced 4 times. he lost all four times and went off shaking his head and saying "that is one fast SOB" My carwas a 65 lark GS.

A quote from a recent report about the average age of Buick owners::

And from an article, dated April 12th, 2010:

Buick's average buyer age drops from 72 to 65 :Comp:

Over 65% of the posters in this thread have stopped posting on this board several years ago, I hope that they didn't sell the farm because of their old age.....:eek2:

I have no plaques on GrandNasty and after I unmercefully kick the crap out of an exotic or another muscle car you should see their faces when they ask..."What the hell is that"?

    With a sly grin I always say........."It's just a BUICK " !!!

Back in the early eighties my first car was a 71 electra 2 door hardtop complete with fender skirts. I had been cutting this old couple's lawn for several years and when they asked what i was going to do with all the money i was making. I told them i was saving for a car and that's when I found out what was in their garage. After my first few trips to school with it I took the normal ribbing from my friends about it being like their grandparents car until a buddy of mine was showing off doing burn outs with his mid seventies trans am. After he put on his dismal display I pulled up in the Buick and i still can remember some people laughing at me, then I completely buried the place in tire smoke. Even now when I meet up with friends from high school they still mention that how cool my Buick was.

Had my Buick Skylark just about 30 yrs now. Bought it when I was 17 with the pizza and paper route my I saved for a few years. Never Ever wanted to put a chevy engine in it. ( Sorry if I offended some of you closet chevy lovers here  ) Best thing was it was every bit as fast if not faster than all my friends Fords, Mopars, and Chevys. Which always really pissed them off ! No one I know really has referred to it as " an old mans car " that I know of. Some of my chevy friends even said " it has better lines than a Chevelle..... don't tell anyone I said that ". LOL !!! :) I think though when most people hear the word Buick, it's easy to think Big Boat of a car and not an intermediate A-body. Just my humble opinion. John B.

Many of us old guys bought our classic Buicks when we were young, and stilll have them as we grow old. This keeps them out of the hands of the younger guys. As we die off, the classics are so expensive, you have to have been earning money for 30 years to afford one! So, it's not just Buicks, unless it's new model Buicks vs Challengers, Cameros and Mustangs, etc. I can see new Buicks and old folks, yes.
Car shows around here prove that:
    * Old classic car= old guy
    * Young pony car= young guy

Pawn Stars TV show last week had a guy bring in a 40-41 Buick. They didn't buy it, but one of there little "factoids" when they went to commercial was "The average age of a Buick owner is 57". I don't know where they get there info, but it is curious.

Well, I'm an old guy (50) who drives nothing but Buicks. As such, I enjoy surprising people and playing with them. One time, while I was plodding around minding my own business in my 67 Cat convertible doing the speed limit, this punk in a recent Mustang decided he wanted to be a bit of a tool and he "pushed" me from behind. I could see him mouthing obscenities in my mirror. So I let him pass, and he blew right past me, and cut me off. Hammered the brakes... So after he got a car length or two ahead, then I sped up, I saw a puff of smoke as he dropped a gear, - and I pulled up alongside of him (we doing about 75 mph) and looked at the speedo, and nodded to him appreciatively, - and then lowered the hammer, - with a look of shock and fear, - and left him like he was standing still. He couldn't catch me.

Another time I let a kid blow past me in a pick-up; - he must have been doing about 80-90 mph. I let him get about a mile ahead, and then passed him at top speed. This was in a 69 Cat with highway gears, and the needle on the speedo was coming back up past the zero mark again. I passed him so fast his truck shook. As I was waiting to do a left hand turn off the highway later, he passed slowly by ogling the car, and removed his hat as a token of respect. Might have made a convert that day.

Never, ever underestimate the Old Guy with the Buick. He just might surprise you...

I have a recent one to tell.We blew the rear gears out of my 64 Special in Bowling Green and we got new gears in Nashville.Got the car to a shop in Bowling Green, very nice man and prices are very reasonable. We could drive the car,so we trailed the car to the shop, parked on the side of it.I went into the shop and asked him were we should park the car in the shop.He pointed the spot, run outside and told Junior to brink the car into the shop. When they heard the car coming ,the all crew rushed out to look.As my son drove in,I'm talking to the owner and he asked me what it runs. When I told him the best run was 9.12 and 147mph he said that's BBC in there, right?I told:If I wanted to slow down I would put one of them in.I then opened the hood and he was amazed to see no nitrous lines in there.I could tell you a million of these stories.Bruno.
