When comparing the increased exhaust flow of the stage 2 head how do the desired cam specs change? I know the stage 1’s like a little more exhaust duration but do the stage 2’s also benefit from that? Is a straight pattern cam a better choice for a stage 2 head? I would also like to know they why’s?
    Thanks

The whole reason behind the stage 2 was to obviously help the less than desirable exhaust side....that being said...i myself dont think the 20° even almost 30° split was completely necessary that some cams had like the window rattler. I talked to Mike Phillips one day abour this and he told me 8° was all that was really needed.... obviously the idea is to hang that valve open longer to help the slow ext runner. But as tested on Engine masters...a little emphasis on the exhaust side is helpful on most all engines and does make for a little more efficient engine which equals power.

That said straight pattern cams can make power in one or two areas in the curve the split may not....for instance the old original Hemi Killer 241/241 541/541 cam ...its a good performing cam...

Ive got a poston 110 i broke in till it got warm and kissed the pistons ha...but its a 252/272 560lift....it doesn't have the best performance...but damn it sounded BADASS

I run the 290h, which is a straight pattern. It has decent street manners with a good lope. I've gone 11.50s with it, with straight awful 60' times- 1.75ish.. I'm sure the motor would go 10.9Xs if it was in a better suited chassis.. hard to launch the four speed too.

I ran a gs110 into the upper 10s. It sounds amazing at idle.

But even alot of bbc run 20+* more duration on the exhaust and often times a good .020 less lift too

TA 608B. Interesting, it’s a straight pattern with the as mention added 8* of duration on the exhaust side.
