    And Eat it too:Do No:

I am about 5 days from putting my 4.10 posi rear end in my GS...
    the 3.08 one legger isn't cutting it:Brow:

My question is... the 4.10's are going to suck for high speeds... but I have found a BFG Radial T/A 285/70r15:Brow: its like 30.75inches tall, anybody out there have any idea if it will fit:Do No: I used to run 255/70's on the 4.10 for the height and they were ok but if I could have more height to gear this thing alittle better and get an even wider contact patch... I think that'd be the way to go.

Any advice out there as to weather these things will work or not. I have stock GN wheels (the jet turbine looking ones) so the offset should be right on.

OR am I on Fantasy Island:Dou:

    Jeff,

I hate to burst your bubble, but I really dont think a 30.75" tire is gonna make it.I couldn't fit anything taller than a 28"tall tire on a 10"rim with 5" of backspacing.I believe the 255's are a smaller diameter tire than a 28" tall tire. You also have to be careful with the "section width" [side wall] dimentions.

Also, consider the same tire on a wider wheel will not pinch as much as on a thinner wheel, causing it to bulge the section width,I just went through this in Dec.Hope this gives you something to think about.

    Good-Luck

On the rims I have now the 255 (29.06 in) fit fine... it "looks" like there is room for more. But the section width is what I was worried about... I've seen 295's on GS's before but they were way shorter and didn't go as far up into the wheelwell as I think these will. I think I'll get under there and take some side to side mesurements...

    anyone else:confused:

Here's a nice chart with A LOT of tire sizes and their measurements. It looks to me like you should be OK with your tire selection, but I would definitely do some accurate measuring before hand. Some tire places will mount and put tires on a car before you pay, you just have to pay for the mounting. Don't pay for balance until you're sure.

    Good luck.

Jeff - How about air shocks in the rear???? Jack it up for big tires, lower it at the track?

    Jeff,

Don't let the numbers for tire diameter fool you. It's true it may seem like only 1" taller but you have to know the tire circomference.1" taller equates to over 3" in cirumference remember the equation for PI X3.14.It's 1"ALL the way around not just 1" taller.I hope you can make sense of this,I don't know if I'm explaining it right. If you had both tires mounted and side by side you would definitely see more than a 1" difference.I cut and trimed my wheelwells and with the 29" tall tire it was almost touching any kind of driving and it would have taken a beating! That was on a 10" wide wheel with 4 7/8 backspacing. Now with a 10"wheel and 5" backspacing and a 28" tall tire I'm back in the game.Hope this helped:Smarty:

I'm glad to hear that with 5" backspacing and 28" you're fitting. That's what I'm going to be trying. I have to wait until next weekend now as the rims won't be in until next Wedsnesday.
