I have two carbs I used for my '68 350. I am going to have one rebuilt but not sure which one to use. pic shows the one I had yrs ago on the 350, I believe its a smaller one for the 350 but cant remember that far back (14yrs ago I converted it from 2bbl to 4bbl) stamped- 7029241 0817 the other is on the car and i think it came from a 455, 73 maybe? stamped- 7042944 0112 Which one do you guys think is the best for me to have rebuilt and use? the car is a stock 68 35, 2.5" exhaust, and have a TA212 cam im wanting to slide in as soon as I get some lifters/rods. 72 California car carb from a 350 CID Buick = 7042944 7029241 is from a 69 Riviera which of course came with a 430 CID Buick.
Thanks Jim, I converted it from 2bbl to 4bbl some 15yrs ago and couldn't remember where I got the carb from (the one from a rivi) I slapped the other one on after this one started acting up. it came from a 73 wagon 455 ( thats why I assumed it was a bigger carb). Any idea which one would be a better one to use? or is it really not a substantial difference?
both have same flow for the most part. 72 Carb has some factory changes from the 69 that make it probably a better choice for you 350.
Ok, I think I;ll send him the 72 carb. its the one on the car right now anyways. thanks for the advice Mark. And thanks for the ID Jim.
Another question... Is there any performance/upgrades I should have him do to the carb other than just a standard type rebuild? anything special I should tell him to do? Im sending it out saturday morning. Thanks
Those two carburetors are equal from a performance standpoint. Idle system modifications will be required for the camshaft upgrade. I'd supply the builder with the cam card specs.....Cliff
