Can someone please decipher this Q-Jet

    1970 Olds 455 carb.

    Something If Fishy About The Last Number, It Doesn't Match The Others In The Part Number And The Date Doesn't Seem To Match.

    It's also missing the Plant Code, so it's either been restamped at some point, (looks like a "1" was stamped over a "0"), or at a minimum is a later produced Service Replacement.

    In any case, it will have the early float/fulcrum arrangement, like the other Old's units produced thru 1974. Not the best starting point for a nice high performance carb, but it can be made to work fine with a superior fuel delivery system and the right float and needle/seat assembly.

    I still shy away from any model with that set-up for serious high performance work, unless the owner just has to use it, high end restortion, class racing, etc.....Cliff
