What's the deal with these decals?????? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3630914996&category=1315 Lon
Lon, I believe Mike Trom has Buick documentation of a 430 Stage 1 option being available in 69, and maybe 68.
I always wondered that too. Then after reading some of the posts here, it appears that the "stage" stuff was available for the 430's as well, but NOT from the factory, only over the counter. Now whether or not the 430 Stage1 stickers were available AT ALL back then has yet to be answered.
One of the period magazine articles shows all of the parts laid out......and I believe it included the stickers too....but I think this was 400 Stage2 not 430 Stage1. I'll look tonight
Here is a scan of some decals I got from Jim Osborne reproductions for my 430 Stage 1 in my wagon. Look pretty good to me and I don't think they were made. Normally a repro has to be made from an original decal. Mark
Stage 1 parts were available for '68 430 motors but I do not think the decals were part of the package. I don't think the decals were available for the '68 over the counter 400 Stage 1 conversion either. I could be wrong o No:
If you looked at my other link about BUICK documentation for stage1 and stage2 here.... http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=202300#post202300 and look at this pic from Motortrend Jan 69, it would logically follow that they also had 430 Stage1 and 430 Stage2 decals as well
Alan, was that MT article pointing out the "69" stage1 option or the "68" stage1 (over the counter) option? If 69, I would think maybe they didn't offer the decals since the "stage1" option wasn't offered on the 430 from the "factory" as the 400 was. I think since the two engines can be so similarly equipped, somebody decided it would be a good idea to create a "430" stage1 emblem too. o No: Good idea, just a slight bit misleading to the untrained eye.
http://www.osborn-reproduction.com/ Try the link above, it lists the address, phone # and links to the items available. Mark
If there is one thing I've learned, it's never to say never when you hear something like this. After all, 10 years ago if someone were to say that Baldwin Motion did a 69 GS, we'd have all been like uzzled: Still, I would LOVE to see definitive proof of a 430 67 Stage 1.
Mark, not to change the subject, but, I love that wagon in your avatar. It's yours right? Got any more pics? :Brow:
Article is from Nov. 1969 SuperStreet Cars......I think its Buick.....you really think someone in the aftermarket world came out with 400Stage2 and 430Stage1 emblems that quickly ?? with Buick's small following back then ?? Here's the link to the full article - Im actually a bit disappointed that it got so few hits and replys......Britney Spears thread got ALOT more views and replies
Ken, Yes that is mine. Coming along slow, but coming along. Got a couple more pics and need to take more. It is almost time to put the cars away for the winter. :ball: Here is one more, Mark
Still need to put the chrome valve covers and decals on, but may wait until next spring. Here is the hood, Mark
(Drool !!) 69 Stage1 emblems (Drool !!!) Mark - you know my car well enough after all these years......would you put Stage1 Emblems on the hood ?? It is afterall, under the hood o No: just not '69 stage1 :Brow: afterall.....the 400 badges aren't exactly right either....
Alan, Of course! What else belongs there? Repros from Poston I got about 7 years ago. I have one pair of NOS ones from GM that are just too rare to use. ou: The wagon is OBVIOUSLY not a factory Stage 1 and there is no way I could ever pass it off as one. It does have an nos Stage 1 cam and a PG done pair of large valve cylinder heads along with all the Stage 1 springs and pushrods. So, it does have the Stage 1 parts. I see nothing wrong with putting the emblems on your car. I don't think you would ever sell it or pass it off as an original. The problem comes in when individuals clone or fake a car for profit. Personal enjoyment in something different. Just my take on it, Mark
