probably my 3rd car, a 1941 Ford convertible with an Olds engine. Wasn't my first car, just my first neat one..

The car that really got me started is in my avatar picture. First car was a 51 Chevy that taught me what not to do with a car. Second car was a 54 Ford 239 V8 stick, two door post. It would get rubber in three gears, but was slow as a turtle. Third car was the 57 Corvette. The 270 horse engine was tired when I got it (1963) but a blueprinted 292 and 4.56 gears put the car on the map, at least locally. :Brow: The Corvette was followed by at least 10 57 Chevy 150 two door post cars, each one faster than the other, with the last one capable of running well under the then existing NHRA L/S record. It was really a fun car, especially when I took it out on the street. Since it only had one decal in the center of the rear window most people never gave it a thought.... till it was too late.

First car was a '70 Ford Torino, 302 2bbl. Fun car, taught me several things to do and not to. Would do a good peg leg burnout without power braking!
2nd car was an '84 Z-28. It took me through college and on a couple of great road trips! Resale red is good at attracting the Highway patrol!
The hot rod in the garage has been a great tool to help me learn more about the hobby and become well versed in many mechanical areas! Still have some ideas, but it has been a constant in my life since '95!

First old car I drove on a regular basis was a 66 Satellite convertible that my dad bought at Pittsburgh Parts-o-Rama. 273 2bbl w/ console automatic. Chicks loved it and it was low HP enough for me not to get into trouble. Next one was a 440+6 4spd Superbird that my dad bought in Eau Claire, WI. Should of gotten into trouble with it but was lucky.

For myself car #1 is a 74 Dodge Challenger Rallye 360 that I still have (graduation gift to myself) 000_1795.jpg . Lusted after the car as it sat in the back of my cousins' Chrysler dealership. Had been wrecked within a year or 2 of being new and my cousin bought it and put it back together. Still has under 35k original miles on it. Black x 4 = paint, vinyl top, interior and black strobe stripes (currently not on).

Car #2 is my Road Runner

Car #3 was a red 63 Plymouth Belvedere w/ a 361 Commando & 4spd that I sold a few years back. Needed a complete resto but had a super solid undercarriage. Went to Indiana somewhere.

  7. Car #1 was a truck, 1941 Ford. 400 SBC, TH400, late 70s Camaro 3.73 posi rear, mustang II front suspension. Didn't get to drive it much, my mother feared for my life. lol (it was a tad light in the ass end)

The "it" car for me was a 1969 Chevelle SS396 I had in high school. L78, M21, 4.10 posi. I drove it as much as I could afford the gas. Looking back, I never should have never sold it. Truly the one that got away and the one I have the most fond memories of.

I also have and use my first car I bought when I was 14 yr old. Race car now for the last 25+ years.
I will die with it. I also give it credit for my career.

A 1961 Morris Minor 1000, 4 door i think, 4 spd for sure. I was 15 and swore up and down, that as soon as I could afford it I would never drive something so damned slow ever again!

My dads car which he ordered from oldsmobile a 1966 Olds Delta 88 2 door fast back, 425, automatic, posi rear, no air, no power brakes and AM radio! I learned to drive in it in 1979 and sold it in 1981 for $300, it became a rust bucket.

First car, 1965 Olds 442 4 speed. red w/ black interior. Beat it to death and totalled it 8 months after I got it. Learned my "lessons" in that car. 2nd car, purchased in August 1971, and still my current car is my 1967 Chevelle SS396 L78 car. 43 years with me and it will never be sold.

My first car was a '97 Pontiac Grand Am GT I thought it was cool. 2drs, V-6, spolier on the trunk, buckets and console shifter.
I didn't have much mechanical skils back then but I cut the mufflers off and put straight pipes on i thought it sounde pretty good, someone once asked me if I put a V-8 in there

there's next to nothing in the way of performance parts out there for the 3.1L engine so I didn't do much to the car.
So it started me on the hobby but I'd say the '67 Skylark made me jump in head first.

My first car was a 1972 Skylark 350, looked like the Sun Coupe's, it had power steering and air conditioning, no Power Brakes. I drove it from 1977 to 1979 a great car for me.

my first car was a 73 maverick that someone gave me to restore. I got it going again and got in an accident on my way to work one day and it was totaled. Long story short it was the other persons fault and i bought my skylark with the money.

    Bigpig455 Fastest of the slow....

#1 - 68 Cougar - base model, 302 2v auto.. It had been in a flood and I never did get it running. Looks like my dad was smarter than I knew...

#2 - 71 Buick Skylark Custom - 350 2v Bench, red with black top, tan interior, ltd slip. Greatest car ever! I beat everyone's mother's station wagons one after the other: Custom Cruisers, Brookwoods, Fury Suburbans, Country Squires....I was The King until I tangled with a 74 Firebird Formula 350 3spd (owned by the quietest, nerdiest kid in school) He cleaned my clock, and I was no longer the man to beat. It made for a much quieter senior year....

Really, where do you start? I'd always been car crazy, didn't care much for anything if it didn't have 4 wheels since before I can even remember. My folks would have told you the same thing. The car that set my direction? I guess it would be this one, my cousins drag car. I met up with this car summer between 4th and 5th grade.

    DWAIR.jpg

First car was a 71 Daert Swinger 2dr, 318, A904 and an 8 3/4 rear end. Found some 340 scoops and made a suedo look alike. First real "hot rod" was a 67 Mustang, built 302 and a toploader 4 speed. Totalled after 2 days on the road. A senior in a minivan pulled out from a stop sign right in front of me. toast. I've owned alot of different makes/models. Went thru a Camaro phase (79 Z/28, 80 R/S 305/4spd/t-top non air, 81 350 4 speed t-top and an 80 Berlinetta) and Trans Am's (Favorite was a 75 w/ 455/4 speed/3.23 posi). But I eventually came back to my Fords. My problem? I like too much stuff and have to own everything. ALMOST went and looked at a 74 350 4 speed vette prior to buying this torino. One of these day's I will, just to say I owned one. Plus, for some goofball reason my kid likes the 68-81 vette's. Go figure.

I oughta copy and paste my list of cars here. Lol.

The car that started it all was a black 1947 Roadmaster Sedanette. My father's car. I looked up (as a youngster) at that big gunsight hood ornament over that mammoth grille and loved the fender lines. Even today I think it is a styling masterpiece. Obviously with such a wicked father I never had a chance! The first car I ever bought was a '70 GS455 Coupe (ordered out) and I still have it and still love it.

This car, 429 SCJ Drag Pack 4 speed. It was displayed in the Ford Motor Co. Oakville Canada new model show, then went to a few salesman's shows in Western Canada before being sold. Wish I still had it. Beat everything that came its way in the mid seventies.
