Just wondering on what carb choice I should go with. Here is what my car has right now:

    8.5:1 Compression
    Crane 215-225 cam
    Poston S-divider intake

It currently has a Qjet 7041540 carb on it right now which is a 800cfm carb. I can get a rebuilt Qjet 7042244 for it which is a 750cfm carb. Will I have any problems with going down to the 750cfm with what my car has or should I stick with the 800cfm carb? Will I even notice a difference by doing this? Let me know what everyone thinks!!

    Thanks,
    Brian

Tune and condition will make more of a difference than CFM.

Thats what I was thinking. I think I might go with a rebuilt one than trying to get another 7041540 800cfm carb on my car. I can get a 750cfm rebuilt for a decent price and I bet it will make a huge difference on my car that appears to run lean and starts horribly so far this winter.

Hold everything. What size engine do you have? That is the determining factor. The 7041540 carb is a 455 carb. The 244 carb is a 350 carb. Do not run the 350 carb on a 455 or you will be in for misery. Do not let someone else selling something tell you it will be fine. It will not. The 455 carb has very specific metering orifices in it that will make idle dificult if you go to 350 carb. If you have a 350 in your car than use 350 carb. If you are running 455 why would you want to lower performance? Have the 455 carb rebuilt by knowledgable person.

Alos the 350 carb will be LEANER than the 455 carb.

Sorry, I have a 350 out of a GS in my car. It has the 455 carb on it now, but I can get a decently priced rebuilt carb for a 350. I would definitely not run a 350 carb on a 455!!! Wish I had a 455 engine though!

Brian, ignore all my blither then. The 350 carb would be a better choice for you car. The 455 carb should not have been lean however. It must have other issues. You probably have choke issues with that Poston intake causing cold starting problems

Might be alright since my car is running rich right now(typo on above posts). I am thinking about going with the rebuilt 750cfm Qjet.. Would temperature make that big of a difference in how it runs(rich or lean)?? If so, I might wait to see how it runs come spring/summertime. Carb that is on there right now was rebuilt 10+ years ago, so I am sure it is time for a rebuild, etc...

i wouldn't get a rebuilt carb from an auto parts store either, most of them are tomco carbs, which just slaps them together and ships them out the door, very low standards. i would send you carb to someone that knows q-jets, like JET performance or a board member on here that does it for a living. i ran a holley street avenger 770 cfm , tuned with a vaccuum guage, listen to the older guys that swear by the holley, and it rocks, best carb i have ever ran.
