Carb#s. 17058259 olds. Manual trans 7044262 pontiac. Auto trans Question is what engines are these for? And will the 78 work on a buick 350? Are they the same internally? I figure one of the carb gurus might be able to chime in:TU:
The Pontiac carb has the huge front vent, and hot air style choke. I suppose that you could put a hole in the air cleaner base and convert it to electric. Linkage is considerably different as well. The later Old's carb is emission calibrated, and could be used with an electric choke, but more than likely it will need some fine tuning/recalibration for the Buick 350 engine. Will they work on the 350, yes. Will they need some help, most likely. Will some "cobbling" be involved to get them to work, most likely. I'd put time and funds into a 69-74 Buick carburetor instead, if you don't have the original unit. They are excellent carburetors, and fit better than other models.......Cliff
I agree start with a Buick 350 carb. Contact Everyday Performance if you want a well priced rebuild and he may even be able to find you a core.
I actually had a chance to buy both carbs for 10 bucks. I had planned to use them as a guide to help me re build the 76 455 I have on the way. I don't want to spend hundreds on a rebuilt carb when I can do it myself and save some change for oh say some ta headers. I rarely ever see a 75 later 350 core in the parts sec so I bought the 455: hope it works out fine.
I have been in touch with ken and he suggested some mods to the 455 carb for my build. I do have one question. With the 2500 stall convertor you suggested sean would that build up a lot of heat during regular cruise 30- 45 mph? If so should I go with a smaller stall o just get a trans cooler?o No:
