Carb heat blockoff

Discussion in ''Da Nailhead' started by 63buicklesabre, Jun 12, 2023.

  1. What is the best way to block off the carb heat holes on the intake where the carb sets.i would like to tap them and install a plug but not sure how to keep chips from falling down

It's a pretty simple matter to remove the intake entirely at that point. There is no water that runs through it, and there's not much atached to it that cant be removed as an assembly. Thats the only sure fire way....

Another option is to measure the holes with a dial caliper if you have one and then look in the Macmaster Carr catalog to find a steel plug to drive in .

Filling the holes with a ciramic epoxy is another option .

I drilled mine in place and then just hit the holes with a good shop-vac. The holes are connected to the exhaust, not the intake. If you miss a couple of chips so what? The engine will shove them out the tailpipe. BTW: This was in New England and it caused very poor cold-weather performance. I wound up re-drilling the plugs to half the original size of the heat holes, which worked perfectly. Now the Buchev is in sunny SW Florida and I wouldn't need the openings at all.

  5. Thanks I ended up pulling the intake.i will tap for plugs.this car will not be driven in the winter.so I'm guessing I will be fine?
