Just installed rebuilt gs 350, with stage 1 intake bored 30 over trw pistons yada yada yada, problem is I cant get it to stay running. It sounds great but as soon as I let off the pedal it dies immediately. I used the original quadrajet from the stock 4barrel intake am I missing a step here? Should I use a spacer between the carb and intake? HELP please.
You may have a vacuum leak...disconnect all vac lines to the carb and plug the ports then see what happens.
You may have insufficient idle ignition timing. Looking down on the distributor, rotate it counter-clockwise a bit. See if you can get it to stay running that way. Also, does the engine have a larger camshaft?
Yes I added the comp cams 268h cam with 268 degree duration, 469 lift, as well as lifters, springs timing chain gears etc, its been bored 30 over with TRW pistons and stage 1 intake. No other mods were made to the heads except the springs. It will run very nice as long as I hold it to 1000-1200 rpm but as soon as I let off the throttle it dies immediately no hesitation. I plugged the vac lines still no change as well as rotate the dist.
Still sounds like a vacuum leak...make sure you have the right base gasket under the carb..there are several versions and if you have the wrong one...will never idle. Also, did you plug the line that goes to the power brake booster...may have a ruptured diaphragm in the booster. You need to plug all intake and carb vacuum lines.
Gasket should be correct, I took the quadrajet off the original cast iron 4 barrel intake and just swapped it to the stage 1, car has manual brakes so no booster all lines are plugged.
