Does anyone know what a 7040240 carb is from and what cfm it is? I was told that some q-jets will flow as much as 980 cfm...is this correct and what needs to be done to it? Thanks.

It's from a 70 Buick 455 auto trans 49 state emissions car. Stock, it used 750 CFM of air.

Any idea if it would work well on a cammed stage 1 engine, or should I find a better one?

Thanks for the replies, guys. Is it true some q-jets can flow 900+cfm? I really want low 11's, high 10's with this car...3.23 posi rear, MT headers, mild ported stage 1 iron heads, sp1 intake, havent decided on converter yet, but want a 550 lift cam(currently sp2x). Or should I consider a holley? I'm not too concerned with idle characteristics as a good 3000 stall should eliminate that. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again

Factory Q-jets were either 750 or 800 cfm. The aftermarket Edelbrock Q-jets were 850.
Your goals are acheivable with that carb, but it would probably be easier with a Holley-type carb.
