carb numbers question

    I need help understanding these carb numbers 7040240 MD 1250. I know its a 70 455 carb but whats the MD 1250 mean? thanks Sam

    1970 model Buck Boat 750 cfm Q jet carb except Riv . Could also be fron a non Stage 1 GS 455. Date coded May 5, 1970.

    Thanks Jim for the info, but could you break down the MD 1250? Would this carb be correct for my 70 GS skylark built in the last half of 70? thanks Sam

    I think we decided MD, I believe ,might be the plant of manufacture --although there is some debate. The other decode is that it is the intended use code of the intended end user. The 125th day of 1970 is how I decode it. Others can jump in to give their opinions and correct me if I am in error.

    If it was built at least a week or two after May 5, 1970 but not if your cowl tag shows the Fisher date code for your car was before that.
