Bought this carb and was wondering if anyone recognized the rebuilders logo on the sticker. Has anything 'bad' been done to it? Carb# is 7043240 LA 1992. Thanks. Mitch
Some searching on this board provided me with the answer (Tomco), so now the question is what was done during this older rebuild? Thanks. Mitch
I have a good friend who works in a parts warehouse in Atlanta. They used to sell tons of Tomcos, and they seemed to be well rebuilt carbs. In the last few years they started having lots of returns. Looks like that one is probably an older rebuild, so it was probably done well. As far as what they do to them, I'm guessing just clean, adjust float, and re-assemble with new gaskets. Since the rebuilders "batch" several (many) OEM carb numbers into one part number, it is probably jetted in a mid-range to work on several years of big and small block Buick V-8s.
Thanks for the replies and offer for rebuild. I had the one on my '72 rebuilt by John Osborne which works great, and I just wanted to have a spare around. It looks the same from the outside, just wanted to know if anything was irreversibly wrecked like needle seat drilled out, new one pressed in etc. or other unwanted drilled passages like I've read elsewhere on this forum. Thanks. Mitch
Mitch, your on the ball!!! :beer I've seen problems with rebuilders changing thing to hide other problems. I thing you will be ok on the one you have, does it work okay for you? If you need help let us know, AL.
The carb was on a '72 motor, so it appears there are no outside differences as all the vacuum hoses and connections were there. Anything I should be concerned with putting a '73 carb on MY '72 motor? Thanks. Mitch
