Ihave some interesting information on the I believe (Wilson ) carb spacers. These are the spacers that start off as a 4 hole spacer then transition into an open spacer.
The company claims up to a 38 horsepower gain.
Well we tried one of these on a 406 chevrolet last night .
The engine went form 496 horsepower to 520 horsepower changing form a 1 inch 4 hole spacer to the new spacer.
We picked up torque as well. The power peaks stayed at the same rpm.

The engine has a weiand Team G single plane manifold and victor jr alum heads.

This spacer is actually for a 455 we are doing, but I thought I'd check it out on this 406 just for grins.

This is some cheap horsepower here . Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES

    Thanks Jim,
I've got a very aged 4 hole spacer now and am looking to get a new one, are these Wilson spacers available in spreadbore configurations?

Would it be worthwhile on a performer (torque motor,212 cam, have not y et made a decision on wether to mill plenum divider or not., or is this specifically for single planes?
    Thanx.

I think they were designed for open plenum ,manifolds. I don't think they are available for spread bore. I will be doing more testing as time goes on here.
They appear to some some sort of phenolic substance. Jim Burek

Here's a link that shows Wilson's various spacers:

    And another:

Which one specificly did you use for those big gains???? We'll all want one of these.

I just found this site which claims it's spacer is even better than Wilson's!!!!!!!!

And here is their catalog and dyno test:

And another place to get these:

Wow, this is going to get complitcated fast!

Let's see who can find them the cheapest first!:Brow:

So, has anyone had any experience with one of these at the track? Does anyone think they could really get 40 HP from just a spacer?

    So..

What's it worth over the HP producing 1" open spacer?

I also have a HVH spacer to test, as soon as a get a 455 with something less than a domminator back on the dyno.

We have been testing with the Hartman 4 hole drop in top, for an open Holley spacer for a number of years here, on various motors, with mixed results. Typically motors with combos that provide a weak carb venturi signal, like that 4 hole drop in, as they promote better fuel atomization with a combo like that.

    Re: Re: carb spacer info

This particular engine did not really see much difference with the open spacer, it extended the upper power band about 300 rpm, but did not make as much horsepower as the 4 hole spacer by itself. Again, this particular engine.

I kept refering to this new space as a wilson spacer, but It is actually the HVH spacer.

I know it worked on a chevy, be interesting to see if it works on a Buick. Jim Burek
