Well, first you must understand that GM doesn't sell the type of carburetor you probably need any more. For example, my 1970 Buick was considered obsolete in 1978, which means GM stopped making parts for it back then.

    A few questions:

What car do you need the carb for?
    What model carburetor is it?
What is the big problem with the one you have?
Is a non-stock replacement out of the question?
Will local laws allow you to run a non-stock carburetor?
Why can't you use a remanufactured carburetor?

In my opinion, while it is very possible that the carb you need exists somewhere, unused, still sealed in it's original packaging, the reality of things is that in the year 2004, it's going to be tough finding the carb you're looking for that is in 'brand-new' condition. Also, after 30 years or so of sitting around, I wouldn't trust that nothing has corroded or that a gasket hasn't become brittle in that "new" carburetor. Maybe if you find exactly what you are looking for that won't be a problem, but to my way of thinking, I wouldn't rely on the "new" carb being in the same condition now, as the day it was built in the seventies.
