When I hit the passing gear it won't open up all the way just half way with the peddle to the floor.Seems like a 2-barrel instead of a 4-barrel . When the car is in neutral and you floor the gas from under the hood all barrels open like there suppose to.

The Q-jet secondaries has 2 seperate controls, The secondary throttle blade (in the base plate) is a mechanical linkage. When the throttle cable fully opens up the primary side, the secondary throttle blades should also be fully open. If this is not the case, the linkage on the driver side needs adjustment.

The other part of the equation is the secondary air valves/flaps. These are the large air doors that you see on top of the secondaries. They are controlled by the vacumm break and spring tension. The secondary flaps will only open if the engine air requirements demand it.

To learn about adjusting the Q-jet, get either the Doug Roe book or Cliff Riggles book.

The secondary air flaps should not open in park, except maybe slightly.

How do you know that the secondaries are not opening up when on the road?

Did you verify the secondary lockout is not engaged?

When the engine is turned off, can you open sec. air valves with you finger?

When it is mashed to the floor it don't make the whooo sound like a 4-barrel should sound, but when its done by hand it makes that wide open sound. I adjusted the throttle and the bores on the bottom all open and the flaps on the front at the top don't seem to open all the way up.
