Hello all, The previous owner of my 70 GS had new carpet installed at a local trim shop. This carpet is very very wrong. It's not even a loop, instead it's just kinda fuzzy. :spank: Here's the thing. The kick panels are covered in the same stuff. But when I look a replacement carpets I never see pieces that go there. Is this just something that the trim shop did or did it come that way from Buick? I'm sure if I have to remove the carpet from the kick panels it will look really bad unless I recover it agian with the correct material. Thanks for any help.
I don't think Buick put carpet on them. I've never seen one with carpet on the panels. But watch...I'll be wrong!! ou:
The same loop 80/20 loop carpet came on the kick panels as the floor. It is remade by Auto Custom Carpets in Alabama. It was not a cut pile carpet as you describe. They have a website.
Rick, That's not what I want to hear :ball: . But I've never seen it either, of course I never look. Jim, are you saying that the factory DID install carpet on the kick panels. I hope that's the case. Then I could just buy the new pieces when I do the rest of the carpet.
I just bought new carpet from Year One, ~$119.00 + $28.00 in shipping. (I had a $50.00 Gift Certificate and it still was ~$100.00 to me). uzzled: Anyway it is nice carpet, but there is nothing extra to do my door panels. I called YO back and they said "Oh yea, it will take a square yard to do both lower doors and it is $55.00 and shipping!!! If I can come up with a loom, I will come our cheaper making my own carpet.
See, I told you I'd be wrong!!! Mine don't have carpet on them, was it an option? part of the upgraded interior?
OK Guys, here's the deal about 69-70 kick panel carpets. 69 and 70 Buick A-bodies with the deluxe/custom interiors got kick panel carpets. There were 2 different styles, AC and non-AC. 69 and 70 Buick A-bodies with the standard interiors did not get kick panel carpets. 71 and 72 cars also did not get them. I wish someone would put this in the FAQ section. Duane
Duane Thanks for that clarification. I presume that he had carpet which is now cut pile. I think you will agree that kick panel carpet was loop and never cut pile.
I get a lot of comments about my Year One carpet, purchased in 2000. A lot of the comments aren't favorable... ( Frayed-look, fading in spots, cut incorrectly) My original kick panels are intact, and have the dark brown loop carpet on them. Nice to know there is a reliable supplier for these. BTW, does anyone make a dark brown floormat to match my dark saddle interior? The closest match I see is tan or light saddle in color and it doesn't look good. Maybe I could dye some of the lighter mats.... Russ Waters 1970 Skylark Custom Convertible 455/TH-350
Great, now I have to put carpet on the freakin kick panels ou: Well you guys may have carpet on your kick panels but my GS came with these!! :eek2: From the factory :Brow: Really it's on my build sheet!!!!!!!!! so, there!!!
I never cease laughing at the friendly jabs at "Chevy" from you guys. Our supervisor at work is the ultimate Ford guy and he is easier on the Chevy bunch. Pretty funny stuff, really! Of course, when I had my 87 GN a few years back, it got old when people who couldn't read would ask " Is that a Monte Carlo?" Hey Truzi, are you still in college? If so, when is the big day? It took me 11 years from start to finish, but it was worth itto receive that diploma. Ask my parents! Russ Waters 1970 Skylark Custom Convertible 455 :3gears:
Great post Duane. Is there something that can be used to help desolve the old glue on these ex carpeted kickpanels? Roger
