I have a 66 Skylark AFB off a 340 with A/T and a 65 maniford. The carb is in really bad condition and would need to be totally rebuilt (frozen butterflys and corroded base plate). What are my options, this is going on a "driver" so a inexpensive cure would be the best. Any help would be appreciated.
These carbs are very easy to rebuild... as long as you can free-up the shafts and the bushings are not worn. If you don't know much about carbs then I get the Carter/Edelbrock "How to" book by Dave Emanuel for about $20... Any speed shop carries it. Good luck,
I agree they are easy to rebuild -if your starting with a carb that is OK. I've sent carbs with frozen shafts to Carmen Faso and he can fix them- I started working on one and he said it was good I stopped when I did before I really **ck** it up. So, 716-693-4090 for Carmen. May take a while to get done. Edelbrock carb will work too, but the stock air cleaner won't fit on it. Ted
I just got a pair of 1965 AFBs completely rebuilt for $145 each. They were both in OK shape when I got them. I started to rebuild one and I got it apart and let it sit for a while and forgot what went where. I had the original Carter on my '59 Buick and it ran like crap. I put an edelbrock on it and it ran bad ass but like you said the air cleaner won't fit. I vote for tryin to get it rebuilt. Worth the money and it will be done right.
