I am new at this site and have found it very helpful, however, I have a 64 394 w/ what I think is the orig QJet. It has a cast iron throttle body. I have read many threads that suggest to adjust the air valve spring to help w/ the "bog", however, there is no air valve on my secondaries. I have rebuilt the carb and adjusted the floats accordingly. I am hesitant to replace w/ another carb as there are linkage(s) to the tranny TV. Any suggestions would be appreicated.

    Thanks.

No Q-Jets were made with a cast iron throttle body.

No Q-Jets were installed before '65.

If you have a Rochester carb, it's likely a 4GC or similar. Haven't seen one in twenty years--but there IS an air valve, it's buried deeper in the secondary venturis instead of right up at the top like a Q-Jet. Since you've rebuilt the carb and didn't find an air valve, I'm wondering if you have a Carter carb.

Yup, 4GC would be my guess without seeing it. Cast iron throttle body and could be had with either alum. base or cast iron base as well. Haven't rebuilt one in years, but have a few down in the shop.

OK, I looked at the carb again and the only text I can find is that it says "4 Jet". I assumed quadraJet.

    Does this help?

Yes. It's not a Quadrajet. It's the older 4G--4GC style. Lousy air flow capacity. It's not a good choice for a performance application, although for a daily-driver/cruiser/show car it'd work just fine.

There IS an air valve in the secondaries--unless someone's butchered it.
