Choke coil for 350 with Rochester 2GV

    Hey, folks,

My dad and I recently came across a 1970 Jeep J3800 (Gladiator) pickup with a Buick 350 and a Rochester 2GV carb. It was previously a farm truck, and somewhere along the line, the choke thermostatic coil must've failed, so it was replaced with a manual choke cable. I'd like to get back to the automatic choke (mostly 'cause I tend to forget otherwise, haha), but am having a tough time finding the right part.

First off, if anyone has this part lying around and they'd like to sell it, please let me know!

In my recent searches, I've come across different choke coils that appear to be not only carb.-dependent, but transmission-dependent. Is this truly the case? Or will any ol' choke coil work? I've also seen just the spring for sale; since I'm lucky enough to still have the coil bracket, can I safely buy only the coil and make my own linkage rod?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

The choke may be year dependent. They had different numbers of bolts to hold it down. On the plate that bolts to the manifold there is a part 3. If it isn't rusted to bad then get that number and post it. I may have one.

    Hey, Fred,

Thanks for the quick response, and apologies for the delay on my end! I didn't see a number on the plate, but there was a number on the arm (that holds the coil itself): 74227. Searching this number, the photos I found don't look like my part, and folks on eBay are asking quite a lot of money for the "equivalent part"... Since I still have the bracket, I'm gonna try my luck with a "universal" thermostatic coil and a homemade rod. That is, once I figure out why I lost a freeze plug and can't even find its remains... Fingers crossed I didn't crack my block last winter!
