Well Gang, the gauntlet has been thrown down! My friend John Massoud, driver of the "World's 2nd Fastest Stage1 GS", has challenged me, driver of the "World's Fastest GS" to a Heads Up race at Cecil County Raceway next weekend at the East Coast Buick Regional Meet. John is strapping a 125 hp Nitrous kit onto his car after Quick-16 eliminations are over, and he and I are going to run it off in a grudge run....HEADS UP!! John figures the NOS will level the playing field between his 468" Stage1 and my 525" Stage2. Of course, anybody at the track who wants to wager on either of us is welcome to (although I'd pick me if I were you  ) . I think a contest between two big battlewagons like John's green 67 and my blue 65 oughta be interesting! In case you are wondering....Rob Chilenski is the current Stage1 Champ, having run 9.53. He plans on dropping that record even lower at Cecil County, while John, who held the Title previous to Rob, is planning on winning it back on motor before squaring off against me on the bottle. Comments....?

My $ would be on you.......Massoud will probably drive through the converter and be on the high end chip around the 1/8th mile and have to lift.

My bet would also be on Doug. Having run nitrous for many years, I don't think throwing only 125 horse jets at an engine as efficient as Johns will make up the atleast 6 tenths that he will need. And also agree with Gary that his combination will not be optimized, unless John has spent some time tuning his combo to run on the nitrous then I may change my mind. Throw a lockup converter and 225 horse jets at it and it's a different story. Still going to be fun to watch. On a side bet will both cars still be alive at the end of the day.

I guess both of you guys have good points, I just figured the 125 hp nitrous will bring John's hp up around even with mine. As far as the tuning of his combo goes...he hasn't had a chance and he'll be running nitrous for the first time in years. Aside from the possibility Gary brings up about driving through the convertor...I'd figure it to be a dead heat. Once again, I don't know much about nitrous. As far as the side bet...I'll throw $500.00 on mine to survive!

WELL i think ive been talking to the right guy about the NOS tune up that im going to run against Doug (SCOTTY) PG that is. about my convertor the last time i ran the nos i only tried it to the 1/8 my car ran 581 at 121 with no real slippage in the convertor, but since then ive had it tightened up 300 rpm. and guys whos to say im only going to hit it with 125HP do you really think i would show all my cards before we run. well we will all have to wait till this saturday.SO I WILL SEE U GUYS IN ABOUT 8 SECONDS.JOHN MASSOUD (TORQUENSOVER)1967 GS 957 AT138 STAGE 1 (SOON TO BE IN THE 888888888s)

Don't mean to ruffle anyones feathers here. I know what it is like when you throw the kitchen sink at a combo to win a heads up race, been there and broke it. Never broke the engine but hurt converters, transmissions, rear ends and suspension parts. Naturally aspirated there is only so much you can throw at it, with nitrous look out. The statement was 125 HP nitrous, anything over that and the bet would change. My main concern with Johns car is if the plan is to optimize to take the naturally aspirated title back and then throw nitrous on to win the next challenge something will be off. I would be concerned with top end RPM when on nitrous when geared for motor only. Good luck to both of you and I hope I am wrong and nothing breaks. I ran for many years bracket racing on motor and running heads up class with nitrous, I did run 250HP nitrous but the combo was totally different for nitrous than the motor liked. Spent lots of money getting a carb that really worked with both combos. Engine liked a 4.10 gear and nitrous liked 3.50 gear, carb didn't want to work with only motor and 3.50 gear. Put a gear vendors unit in John's car and I will put my money on him.

Well Friends, I'm sorry to report that the "Mother Of All Battles" never took place. John's motor went KAA-BLAAMM on Friday. I'll give him this much...when he breaks something, he breaks it BUT GOOD! John never even got a chance to hook up the juice. One thing though, that motor doesn't owe him anything. He got almost 1400 runs out of it!! Anyway, I'll be happy to give John another shot when he gets it all back together. Good Luck John. :TU:
