I am rebuilding my AFB and am looking for ideas on how to clean the outside of the carb so that it looks all new. I soaked it for a couple of days in carb cleaning solution. All inside ports and passages are 100% clean and open, no problem there. But the outside of the aluminum body is kind of gray and blotchy looking. I was hoping to get a tip on what to use to clean the outside so that it looks as good as it will perform. Thanks! Jim C. Houston, TX
AFB stands for aluminum Four Barrell. The problem with aluminum is it is porous and it stains very easily. That is why I paint all my aluminum engine parts. They look alot better as they age. The only other solution is to bead blast it and polish it, but you cant do that now. You might try to paint it with alumi-blast or equivalent. I've never tried to paint a carburetor before. It might not be feasible. Maybe if you mask it off.
