Having issue with my clutch adj. thinking someone at one time may have repaired my zbar. When the clutch peddle is up should I be this close to exhaust manifold. Also, according to my assembly manual the trunion should be on the other side of zbar but It won't fit w/o losing peddle travel. My issue is that my clutch is not releasing enough and I am getting some gear grind when shifting into reverse and overall shifting does not see right. I have adj multiple times. I realize that I don't have the correct actuating rod but I have read on this site what I have usually works fine. Before I buy a new zbar thought us would ask. Thanks,
You would need to compare your Z bar to a good original. I can take the one out of my basement that I have and take some measurements for you. If there are indications it was repaired, its a possibility that the lower arm is welded in the wrong place.
Agree, looks like this has been repaired too with some addl weld. Based on other z bars I have seen it really looks like mine was broke and welded in wrong spot. Do you have one you would like to sell? I was going to order a repop from opgi since they look to be he only vendor that sells a 455 zbar.
Hi, Pedals are fine. I just replaced the rod with one from inline tube as mine was worn bad at the zbar end. I was concerned about the length too but was told it's the same as the orig.
Told by Inline Tube? If so, you need to measure it yourself. What is the source for the fork you are using? I think I saw the Inline display at Myrtle Beach packaging a repro as correct for all GM for 1970. This I think is a mistake.
The holes tend to get out of round due to wear. They need to be welded closed and re-bored in the proper location.
Hmmm....something looked wrong so I went and checked out my trunion where it inserts to the Z-bar. I have mine inserting from the other side (back side) of the Z-bar. As far as I can remember (back to 1985) I've been assembling them this way. Now I look at the Chassis Service Manual and I see the same thing - trunion inserts from the back side - not the front. What clutch and throwout bearing are you using? Some do require a longer throw than stock, as I learned when I ran a Borg & Beck setup. p.s. - I use the same spherical rod end linkage as you.
