What is the correct color for the clutch rod? Gold cad or . . . ?

Watching, for an answer My guess is black oxide, natural, zinc, or gold cad. I know it's no help but all the ones I have seen are rust...

The ones I've seen have a silver finish to them. Silver cad maybe?

Thanks for the quick responses. One last question for tonight. What about the Z-bar? Natural or black oxide?

Every original I've seen was a dark gray phosphate color.

I believe this to be the original finish or what's left of it

No problem, you sure thats a big block upper clutch rod? I don't see the bend "up" on the z bar side

I hope so. I just went through Todd Millers site and it matches the one he sells for the 455. My whole 4 speed set up came out of a '69 GS400. Trying to get everything ready to put it in my '70 Stage 1 car. The only thing I see that is different is my clutch fork is not the clevis style one. I'll be making a list for Todd so, I'll probably get the correct fork and clevis then. If there is anything else I need to look for let me know. Thanks

Here's the difference with small block and big block upper clutch rods

The small block one will measure approximately 14.5" center to center while the big block one will measure approximately 15.25". So about 3/4" longer.

The big block rid will have a bend up at the z bar side. That's because the arm on the big block z bar is taller. So it needs the bend so it doesn't rub the top of the hole it goes through on the steering column floor plate.

Couple pics. Bbb on left, sbb on right

Sbb on left now. You can see the bend in the bbb one clearly

Measured about 15 3/8. Has a slight kick but, doesn't seem to be as much as the one you pictured. I guess I'll see when I get that far. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go. Thanks.

Ok. Need another color conformation. Back drive Cross Shaft. . . Silver zinc or Gold cad?

Gold cad. Here's an original with just a trace of the finish left

Thank you C.Jay. That's what I had re-searched but, wanted to double check. I see some of the reproductions are gold cad and some are silver zinc.

Also, I do have the correct clutch rod. Once I made your picture bigger, mine has the correct up bend. Thanks for all your help. I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Another question on the Backdrive Cross Shaft. My car is an original 4 speed but, had a th400 in it when I bought it and I had a built th350 in it when I raced. Now I'm piecing all the 4 speed parts together. Do I need a different cross shaft or is it the same as the one for the automatic?

    I reused mine going from a th350 to M20.

Didn't realize there was a difference.
