i have my car in the body shop getting ready for paint. i was thinking black, but i think i may want to go for a more custom color. it has brand new black interior and i do want to get the boss 338 wheels, so i am looking for a dark color. i did look at the new dark gray metallic paint that the camaro came out with this year. i looked on the buick website and found no color that screams at me....anyone have ideas?

    thanks in advance!!!:beer

Don't paint it dark gunmetal metalic or Black. Maybe a candi over black. Those can look pretty sweet. Black in the shade but the bodyline show X candy in the sun.

Most people eventually resell their cars. So if you like a good resale color the future is worth considering. These would include red or black if the body work is straight.

From a financial point of view, custom paint jobs are the worst investment. They cost more to apply and insurance carriers often exclude these from coverage in the standard policy exclusions.

In addition, most custom paint jobs are fads, and fads die away to make room for new ones. When this happens, the ones that once had the latest and greatest are now cast aside similar to yesterday's news which no one cares to hear, or in this case, wants to see. It's always best to stick with an original color, even if it's not the color that came on the car. On the other hand, it's your car to do with what you wish. Just be honest with yourself when you ask if you're still going to like it 5 or 10 years from now.

I can't help but to think about those 80's 90's 'ZZ Top' style paint jobs on the all the hot rods of the day. It was SO COOL back then... now I just shake my head...

Let's not even talk about haircuts...

Stick with the basics and you'll be fine. Personally, I think that any shade of metallic silver-gray is classy, timeless, and will never be out of style.

hey Buick-ers, thanks for all the feed back! i'm definitely leaning toward jet black with black boss 338 wheels or cyber gray metallic (from the new camaro- if i go that route, i will get the gray boss 338 wheels). i'm going to a chevy dealership to check out the color in person to see exactly how it looks. going custom is definitely expensive, so keeping it a cool timeless color will be the route to go....will post pics when the car is all complete! thanks again....:TU:

Look at Tims Roys '70 GS if you want to see a outstanding example of the grey color w/black wheels. Very nice Eleanor paint w/GSX graphics. I'm sure he could provide more info if needed.

If you are going to have the car professionally painted, ask to see the color samples that they get from manufacturing reps. They will cover a wide range of potential colors and hues by automobile manufacturer. Plus, you won't have to worry what the car will look like because you already have the exact color in hand. All the mixing is done by computer now and days. If the company painting the vehicle is really good, they will make a larger sample card upon request (about the size of an index card).

I did this with my motorcycle/bar hopper a few years ago, and put a color called 'Roadhouse blue'. I also had a PPG harlequin flame put on (flame changes colors in different positions of light).

You could PM Scott Roys (SRoys) or Curtis Roys for more info. They could probably tell you plenty and get you in contact with Tim. I'd bet they have tons of pics of "Scar".

You could also check out http://www.buickboys.com/ for more info.

    This is good advice.
I would like to suggest that when you view the samples, do it outside in the sun. :Smarty:

This way you will see the EXACT color everyone else will see when your at all those car shows.:TU:

pengy, i feel your pain! i actually like the gray shade of the 70 gsx that was sent to me...i may even throw in a black stripe to compliment the black interior. i think the next problem i'm going to have is deciding on what color boss 338s to order, black or gray! ahhhhhhhh!!!:Dou:
