do converters get weak over time???

my 70 wildcat with 273 gears will not spin :Do No:
I even tried on wet pavement from a stop and nothing
but at 10-15 mph and open it up on wet pavement it
    will break them loose...

I need to replace the flywheel (broke tooth) and was wondering if a new converter would help the car or not,

my car only has 49000 miles but it is 39 years old
    any advise would be appreciated.

oh yea i forgot to mention we have already recurved the dist.

the stator in the converter multiplies torque at low speed, it has a one way clutch that allows it to freewheel at hi speed.

If that goes bad you will have only a fluid coupling action, lots of slip low end, no torque multiplication/get up and go.

I knew a guy who had this happen to his TH350, couldnt burn out but thought the car drove alright otherwise. He swapped the converter and was good to go.

Could be lots of other things. This was the first that came to my mind.

    Good luck.
