i got a non ac nailhead going into a ac equipped skylark. most of the air stuff was pulled out except for what is in the dash area. what can i do to get some working ac in this car. i dont care if its original looking as long as it functions. can i pull the ac from say a new chevy truck and make it work? and jsut use my controls and all.

Primary thing is to get vacuum controls routed to operate damper doors especially the one that diverts air NOT into heater core. use hand held vacuum pump to test. fan switch should intercange and work. the cable that was for vent/ heater/defroster should be able to attach; not sure about your specific application, as i don't have one to go by. Don't think later model cotrols will work; most use electronics to support functions.
Ever get your sway bar issue resolved on ebay?

I'm not the full expert on A/C; (just the FOOL) but I believe the earlier r-12 systems used a different method of controlling pressure through compressor than later r-12 and definitely r-134 systems. newer r-134 systems cycle the clutch to maintain temp and pressure (Somebody else on here was talking about how it made his GS cycle and bog so much that he didn't know what to do) So in the long run, to simplify things you may need to get complete aftermarket system $$$$$$. just my two cents and change. hope somebody else chimes in on this.

see posting "compressor going on and off, on and off"
Doing the conversion to that agent might be a good option in that you have your system apart. Again, not knowing what all things you have or don't have makes this a question that is fairly vague. You might be able to assemble everything and it work perfect, or you might toast a good compressor and a ll the other stuff.
