I don't know if this picture is enough to tell - this is the harmonic balancer on my '77 350. It has two timing marks, and notice the little 'bump' on the lower timing mark? That's different than another stock balancer I have. What do you all think of this?
The wider spot with the groove is the factory 0° timing mark. The other one looks like they cut it pretty deep with a sawzall or cutoff wheel. I agree with Larry, it's probably about 30° BTDC. Mark them both with a lighter paint and it will be a breeze to power time it. See Larry's thread for further details.
I thought that might be a 30° mark. And I've got the power timing thread saved for when I'm ready to time it. Maybe I'm being paranoid but I search 350 balancers online & can't find one that looks like mine. But if I search 455 dampers I see ones that look similar, with the bump at the timing mark. Is it possible to put a 455 balancer on a 350?
No, I believe there are V6 balancers with that big groove. I believe the TA 2025 new balancer has that groove.
The seals are a different sizes so you'd never get a 455 balancer past seal if you did manage to attempt it.
You might’ve just saved me some math. So on my 69 balancer if I measure 1.75” clockwise from my balancer timing mark, that’s my 30 degrees BTDC? Thanks. (I’ll still measure and confirm but it’s good to get verification)
