I'm restoring a 70 skylark (non GS), and see the cowl tag is (painted) black, blending in with the paint they must have used to spray the engine bay I assume. My question is - How would it have come from the factory? Not sure if I should clean (scrub) the tag so that it's polished or not, thus removing the black paint. Any set standard? I hear there may have been a thread on this in the past, but can't locate. Can somebody assist? kbk
Depends on the plant where it was built. Flint was bare metal with some small amount of masking/overspray.
I left mine bare after paint stripper! replaced it back on chassis black firewall. Not supposed to be bare and beautiful! over restored.could have painted it but the few times I went to salvage yards the tags on cars the paint would come of just the tags because of exposure to the weather.
