Got it - Thanks! There was a discussion on '70 D99 GS's on FB recently and someone quoted those #'s & I should have verified before posting it, but you know, I read it on the internet so it has to be true. I always really liked the painted top cars, but obviously not many were ordered that way for whatever reason (cost?). The vinyl top sealed the fate of so many...
Thanks Mike. My Bamboo Cream vs Burnished Saddle production figures came from this commonly quoted chart but again was only referring to GS 455 cars since the car in questions is a GS 455. On a separate subject you state that 8732 GS 455 coupes were made & 6317 of those had vinyl tops. 1285 of those vinyl top cars were white vinyl top cars. This GS 455 car is paint code 78 Burgundy Mist of which 211 were made (44 convertibles & 167 hardtops). Is it known how many of the 167 Burgundy Mist hardtops had vinyl tops & more specifically how many had white vinyl tops? Thanks in advance if you know the further break down.
I don't know where the numbers in that chart came from but the numbers I quoted are from the GM Daily Car Reports so I will trust the GM reports. Unfortunately they don't break down the color/top combinations so I don't have any further information. My Burgundy Mist numbers are the same, 167 GS455's, 44 Convertibles, 230 GS350's :beers2:
I had one of those...3G87X2M. 4 speed car too. Bought it for 2500 from the original owner. That was a running SOB! Rebuilt the engine and put a 308 cam in it. Original engine with Ga heads. Miss it As far as numbers, according to the DCR's, bamboo cream 455 coupes number 863 total for 1970. Total was 2269. Burnished saddle was the #1 produced at 2714 total GS cars. D99 cars (2 tone paint) for 1970- 177 455 coupes. 602 GS's came with 2 tone paint for 1970 in total

IIRC, it was on CL for low 30's? I guess the color was an issue. I kinda liked it with the black painted top, but then again, I like the obscure stuff.
That 26k bid did not buy it . I asked some questions and got The Sloan Report. The high bidder bailed and I was contacted about a purchase. Did not feel good about that situation and passed on it. The car was close to the build sheet but not 100 percent.
It had a 12 bolt . It was probably a drag car at some point in it's life. The car was in Ct. I asked for photos of the suspension and trunk pan to see if it was rusty or was rusty. Never got them. Just too many unanswered questions for me.
