Welcome to my nightmare....pics and more pics Well, the teardown has begun on my 67 skylark. Front clip is off, 2 new front fenders , passenger front inner and rad support on the way.... Bumpers are gone for straightening and re chrome. Interior is out and finished ( in storage ).Took off the chrome trim and pulled the windshield today. What a nightmare. Rusted completly at base of windshield and into dash. New filler panel on the way as well....Question is...is the filler panel welded to the top of the dash? Its so rusted down there that I can't tell how it went together originally....Any suggestions on the best way to repair this area?Good news is...floor is solid throughout and so is the rear deck and filler. Hoping to repair most of the damage around the windshield myself....Will post pics tomorrow. Thanks in advance.... Brent
Brent, I did this repair on my '66. I used a reproduction lower windshield channel (pictured). It's available from several Chevelle/GTO vendors for about $60. Here's a pic of it, in front of the original.
For the interior panel, I made a patch, and welded it in... The available repair piece is about 2" wide....from the foreward edge to the defroster outlets. I believe it's called a 'dash reinforcement'. However, the Chevelle has different defroster outlets. It could be used if your defroster outlets are in good shape.
Walt, Thanks very much for the pics and the info...I ordered the filler panel from The Parts Place and its says it comes with the reinforcement, so I am hoping it is the dash area of which you speak. Mine is considerably worse than yours.I can't even tell where the spot welds are. I think I will be cutting out that whole section. Your pics certainly help... Brent
Pics of my nightmare...as promised Now you see what I have to deal with....couldn't see much damage til the windshield and pillar caps came off....Anyone tell me the original paint and trim? Codes on tage are: paint TT, trim 183 its a Canadian car.
