Well. My other thread was dominated by one person who helped me through the process and now my blinkers work. But, My dashlights do not and he logged off. so.. I need help still 1970 buick skylark 350 engine. Blinkers / flashers / headlights all work I do not have a dome light though.. Pretty sure everything is messed up and i'll have to get a new one.. But do i even need one to get my dashlights to work? It doesn't bother me when i can't see in my car before i leave during the night.. >.< Help much appreciated
I didn't follow your other thread, did you turn the headlight knob cause that has a rheostat built in to dim the lights!? And I think there's a fuse for the dash lights.
Yes i did.. It didn't do anything though.. It just turns and than stops.. Than i just turn it the other way.
The little tiny fuse at the bottom of the fuse box is for the dashlights if I remember correctly. then Check the bulbs?
Useualy if the fuse for the tail lights blow the dash lights will not work to let you know theres a problem. there is also a small short fuse at the bottom of the use panel just for the dash lights. the courtsy (dome) lights are on there own fuse L side 2/3 the way up.
ok. I'll check the fuse. and how would i go about checking the bulbs? do i have to take the whole dash apart >.< The tail lights do work
Well. The fuse wasn't the problem.. Guy at autozone said that a 5A would work instead of a 4A since they didn't stock 4A.. Looks like i gotta take the dash off and replace the lights.. Any other suggestions before i have to take the dash off tomorrow?
Jacob, The chance of all the dash lights being out at once doesn't sound right to me. There has to be something else being missed.
Please explain.. I have no clue what your talking about. And.. The only light that works in my dash is my right turn signal light >.<
i agree. This reheostat is what controls the brightness of the dash lights As you rotate the headlight switch they will get brighter/dimmer In my car, its about to give up.. sometimes my dash lights are not one, but if I wiggle the headlight knob left of right a little bit they'll come back on
Yeah.. I just replaced it and 2 of the 3 lights illuminate.. I needed the Speedometer to light up and thats what didn't.. So it looks like i have to take it apart anyways.. Unless someone else has a suggestion.. So far ive replaced the fuse and the push pull headlight switch.. Cost like 15$ lol.
My car sat so long that it turned out there was oxidation on the rheostat and turning it back and forth a few times and presto, lights came on. It's probably the rheostat in the switch. You may need a new one.
I dont see Y you couldnt get you hand up under there to the back of the cluster and use the force to find the bulbs. I replaced a few of mine that way and it was a pain but not as much as pulling the dash apart.
Manual calls for 194's to be used in many dash lights. 194's are 2 candlepower. I replaced ALL my 194's with 168's, 3 candlepower. 50% increase made quite the difference! Good Luck!!
Ok thank you everyone! i'll try and get my hands back there.. But i have the biggest hands out of all the people i know. should be fun..
So.. this would be the back of my speedometer.. ( well not mine, but it looks just like it ), so.. where the hell does the light go
Hi Jacob. I need to replace the headlight push/pull switch on my 70 GS and was curious how you did it. Do you have to take the dash apart to get at it? Divecop
