Let's not forget you're trying to convince a female that she's done wrong,......fella named Adam tried that long time ago,...we see how that turned out

Dan, this really sucks but maybe you and a buddy should go for a drive and go see yourself what’s left there. It’s not like you have to drive all the way across the country, and a face to face meeting might help your situation. Like someone else said he/she may have sold the lot of parts already but then you can see for yourself. If your conversations with her have been confrontational this may or may not be a good idea? Good luck Gord

Gord- I would say based on her actions, he would be met with the police, a gun, a gun and the police, or a bunch of family members waiting with weapons. Best recourse would be legal action.

Is it possible the wife asked Dave what the terms of the deal were while he was already suffering from dementia and told her he was done? Maybe she was not aware the work wasn't complete.

That’s a good point, but after more than one person comes forward saying ‘where’s my stuff? Where’s my money?’, she might want to ask whether she should believe a man with dementia, or several men with the same questions.

And OP has receipts with specific stated services and purchases that, even to an absolute novice, don’t match the dismantled block he picked up.

Scratch my previous comments then, and the border may make it difficult for legal actions. Sucks…

In all likelihood, you will need a judgment from a court to have a valid claim against the estate. A pile of receipts, notes, etc won't be enough.

Chalk it up to experience. You will spend a lot of money and get nothing.

And after spending all that money on lawyers, you get a judgement. Good luck getting the money back if there isn't any. Might as well use it for toilet paper

I've had some luck with small claims court. Some folks $hit themselves when they get the letter and give the money up before the court date. Others, well, they know the system.

If you get a judgement, you can either put a Mechanics lien on the Business or if you know their Bank info , which you will know if you wrote them a check it’s on the back, then you simply file the correct paperwork and you take it directly from there. I did this to a machine shop years ago on some crappy work and recovered my money $5000 from their Bank.

If I had all the money I've been f@#$ed out of from car "restorers", dishonest employees and people I've tried to help that screwed me, I would be a bazillionaire. LOL. I guess its my "fault" for trusting people that should not have been trusted. I still want to trust people, but that's not the smart way to do business. The world shouldn't be that way, BUT IT IS. Done the small claims thing. Ok. You can't collect money from a brokedick a$$hole that doesn't have any. RANT OVER.

The options after winning are going to vary with each state. Usually the defendant knows enough to appeal it 10x and then file bankruptcy in the meantime.

Even if you get a judgement, it's 10% of thier salary if they even have one. And if the person has multiple judgements against him or her, it's one at a time and you have to wait in line.
